This raises a very large red flag with me. You were either approved or you weren't, there aren't contingencies with AFPC -- they are a binary entity. I'm not good at people, your interviewers are. If you can't get a bad story past me I'd not try it with them.

My separation which was contingently approved last August by SAF, was dependent on me accepting it. Due to some things that were going on, I did not accept it. Three months later I found a guard unit and am trying for PC now.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'll call the Pilot Selection Team and let them know the situation.

I didn't have a hard approved date when I applied and interviewed. AFPC is two step process at least for retirement. Step 1--you ask if you are eligible and Step 2 you then have a few weeks to apply once they reply to step 1. At the interview I just took the letter that I was eligible to apply for retirement. I then waited several months and then actually completed Step 2 and set a hard date. When my indoc came a month earlier than expected I then asked AFPC to move up my retirement date a month earlier and they approved it. My timing was such that I went to indoc on normal leave and then signed out on terminal after.

Bottomline: in today's environment you don't have 4-6 months to do this shuffle but if you have a workable plan that you can expect to reasonably execute and explain then just be honest and up front. Update your app with that date and let them know that when you call for interview date. If they have put you on the interview list they want to hire you.

I'd call the Pilot Selection Team, tell them you didn't keep your availability up to date, tell them what it really is, and ask them what to do. Do that, and while they might decide to defer you for a while, you might not get the Delta door shut on you forever. Who knows....I had a friend get hired by Delta almost 9 months ahead of his availability date, so you could possibly even still get to interview.

I don't think you have said how much commitment you have left. If you're Palace Chasing a month or two, that's a different ballgame than a year or two. How much time are we talking about here?
This....if you are looking for more than 18 months off it seems that ship has sailed after all the fy14 reductions.

Default Former Military Looking for advice

Hi All,

I'm a former F-16 guy who has been away from flying for a few years. I don't have current time. I'm currently working on getting back to a flying career, having recently finished the ATP.

I've always assumed that because I don't have recent time right now, I am not competitive for a job with Delta. I'm assuming I'll need to fly with a commuter to get recent time.

Is there anyone here who can shed any additional insight into this for me? Should I go ahead and submit an app for Delta anyway and just update it once I have a few hundred hours of recent time?

Thanks!

I have heard two rumors and again only rumors. They won't even look at your app unless you have at least 100 hours of flying in the last year and they like to see around 450 hours a year if possible.

Give it a shot. I got a call and only had 150hrs in last 2 years in Hornets. There's no way to discern on the app how many hrs are recent, just date of last flight & monthly avg.
good luck!

I had two friends I submitted that had limited hours and both got hired. One had less than 60 hours in past year. As always, it will depend on the strength of the rest of your record and the reason for not being current.

I had 51 hours in the last 6 months and was on a non-flying year-long deployment before that when I got the e-mail in Nov.

Not True. Delta Addendum asks "How much flight time have you logged in the past 12 months?" Now, how much value they place on the answer you put in there, I have no idea. But I have heard the 100 hours in the last year as a good rule of thumb.
