FE, appreciate your comment. No, not at all. I'm not any more or any less entitled. I just simply feel that I as a person who has done my best no matter the obstacle or adversity, that I should at least get the chance to interview. That's all

Sometime I really feel like I was born in the wrong era. I think I would have been much better suited to the 1950s and 60s

I second the "Wow." The one absolute killer is attitude. Give a hint of entitlement to an interviewer and you are done. My personal best example was a military pilot + engineering degree + commuter line check airman + minority. He was so arrogant it shocked me. Thought his carrier should merge with be big D and he should come straight over as a 767 Capt... I was F/O at the time and he told this to the Delta 767 LCA. Told us he had been interviewed and rejected by Delta once and UAL twice. New Guys & Gals: Play the game, lose the attitude, be honest on the psych test & everything else, be on time, dress nice, be friendly..sorta like someone you would like to fly with, and relax. You will do fine. OFG

You've obviously paid some dues. And that's awesome. It really is. I'd value that in an applicant. A lot.

Not only do I like this, I think that DL thinks they like it too. A lot. They will want to know about it. So put it all on your app. The banality of it all, that you resent so deeply, actually works in your favor.

First impressions are eveything, but people can blow sunshine on you all day long, no matter how many psych tests you give you can never tell what that person will do in the future
Of course. To some extent everything in an interview outside of bare bones minimum regulatory requirements is arbitraty to some degree. Or at least isn't a 100.00000% catch all. But that's not the point. Its about trying to get 99 point something and then seeing how many more 9's you can put after the decimal. Yes its somewhat arbitrary. But you know what? And you may not want to accept this. But it works and it works very well. No, its not 100.00000%. Nothing is. But the over all system works very well.

Regarding the psych test, the answers are way too ambiguous.
So? Seriously. So? Instead of fighting something you have zero ability to change you could have spent the same number of pages learning about the process (and filling out your app).

So, now I'm here in China. And yes, I absolutely have paid my dues.
I believe you believe that. You have definately paid dues. No one can deny that. But you have NOT paid the dues of any given company unless and until you 100% accept what they require of their applicants, and you comply with their requirements. I know that you know that you'll never change their hearts and minds by simply resisting what they ask. As if one day they will have an epiphany and be all "oh wait, its YOU! why didn't you say so! although you only did about half of what we asked on your app, we're waiving pretty much the entire process because of the dues you've paid! when can you start?"

So here are my points

1. Play the game. Yes if xyz airline wants you to take a psych test, ask you to play naked twister, whatever....it's the price of admission
So far so good.

2. Everyone is different, just because people don't agree with your opinion doesn't mean they are wrong and you are right. No, I don't believe in psych test and I think they are ridiculous. There I said it. Back in the 1400s the world thought that the earth was flat, and one man proved them wrong.....
Actually your history is a bit off, but that's OK. It doesn't matter if you "believe" in psych tests or not. Its a requirement and your angst over it isn't going to change anything. Any. Thing.

3. College degree has nothing to do with flying an airplane. Nothing.
Yes and no. College, even vague degrees, used to be an element of intellectual finishing. Now the opposite is largely the case. Its where children go to extend their childhoods and where parents send their retirements to live vicariously through their children. You will find few critics of college more than me.

But they require it. Period.

Period.

4. Pilots should be interviewing pilots. Pilots should be writing the job descriptions. Pilots should be doing it all NOT HR
Agreed. And in most cases pilots do. The DL panel, the most critical and toughest part, is 2/3 pilots. The knowledge part is 100% pilot. The cog test is geared to pilot related things. And like it or not, and while its not perfect, it doe generally work. At least as good or better than some idiotic arbitrary "sim ride" where they throw you in a plane you've never flown before (and if you tried in real life it would be highly illegal) to prove you are such an awesome pilot. The process is for pilots by pilots and you will be judged by pilots.

As to my original post regarding work history. I think 10 years is enough.
Well its not.

This is my opinion.
Your opinion (on this) is wrong.

When and if I apply to a carrier that requires more than I'll do my best to rem it.
Good.

Funny comment about the cop thing, actually my memory is not that bad. But when they ask on the app DAY month and year I have a little problem as I would have no idea the exact day or why it would even matter
That's OK. For long distance thigns like that, its OK to approximate as long as you are honest about it. Put it in the comment section or at the very least make it clear in the interview that you don't remember the exact dates for that summer job 30 years ago. "It was between junior and senior year in HS and I'm pretty sure I started in June and quit in August, so I put the 15th of each month but could be wrong about that."

But stopping at 10 because you think that should be enough isn't going to cut it.

And moving violations? Well without going to my state agency I would have no idea as well. Since I can't do it online then being on China makes it that much more difficult
Again do your best. and list everything you can remember, and approximate dates as best you can. Get your driver record too if you can.

So in the end, yes I do feel "entitled" to Atleast get a shot at an interview.
Well you're not. Seriously.

And you're definatly not if you don't:

1. Have the required degree
2. Don't fill out the entire app to THEIR satisfaction

I've paid my dues above and beyond, there is no real difference between what DAL pilots due on a daily basis then any of the rest of us. We all fly turbine equipment in the weather and for some of us it's in not so nice places.
Finish your degree, finish the app, and lose that last part and you will do fine.

To this I will merely add that IMO DL heavily values the work ethic and tenacity you've shown in your career. If you can find the right mindset to go with it, you have an excellent chance of getting whatever airline job you apply for.
