No idea. However, from sitting down with the head of hiring, some of his first questions were, where did you go to school, what was your GPA, and how long did it take you to get through school? Personally, I think they may place too much emphasis on some of that, but they can write the rulebook however they choose.

It's actually a slap in the face to Delta to imply that networking is the key to your dream job. Delta is a world renowned company and to think they just hire you because your their neighbor is an insult. They have a process and some don't like it but the truth is, it's a very fair process. I would be upset if Delta was hiring just anybody because they networked which doesn't seem like a fair process. Please don't say networking is the way to an interview because it's not!

What they will tell you is that by coming to the job fair, it will cause them to pull and review your application which could trigger an interview invite. Again, I can't stress what a slap in the face it is to Delta to imply that just because you meet someone you will get an invite. They have a process and if you app scores high enough you will get the invite. Going to a job fair will get your app scored if it hasn't already been scored and that may get you the invite. No one really knows how the application is scored but to imply that a community college guy that gets a 2.8 gpa in ten years of schooling would get an interview over a fighter pilot or an Ivy League college guy just because he went to a job fair is ludicrous.
IMO - This ^^^= a terrible perspective.

If I had not already been hired by Delta or was still seeking a job offer, I would be doing EVERYTHING possible to get the call. Including attending as many job fairs as possible, meeting as many insiders as I could, flying as many flight hours I could and everything in between. I think most would agree that networking as one way to boost your chances of getting an invite to interview.

Additionally, to any pilot who has inside help to help them get the job...Bravo!! If I did, I would have used it in a heart beat.

To any pilot who is upset with anyone else who gets a job due to a relative in the business or an inside connection is just a jealous Playa Hayta.

There is no doubt some score from going to these. One of the big ways majors score from these events is for PR and government relations. I'd be more than willing to bet the majors like Delta, UAL, AA, etc. don't lose any money from going to these events.

I'll say what flycameron is trying to say is it hasn't helped guys like him and I. All the people that have looked at our stuff state we meet and exceed DAL's current hiring, but I guess not by selections standards. I have no skeletons in the closet other than a speeding ticket, but the WIA and OBAP conventions have done nothing to help us. Even DAL hands out a disclaimer at them (and I still have it) that says the conventions don't help your app, but what's onairlineapps is where it is all at. UAL doesn't do that and I've heard you get points for visiting, but not DAL.

Good gawd. I'll never get there if this is the case. Did they say if they were just new apps, or ones that didn't meet high enough in the electronic scoring system?

Had a few friends who make the trip to WAI, got in a 4:30am line (and that didn't get them the first spot) in suit and tie to wait 5 hours for a Delta ticket - their dream job, only to get that same disclaimer card essentially saying "Hey thanks for showing up. Your presence here is completely meaningless. It did nothing for you".

If they really don't even factor that sort of significant effort and interest (time, money, relationship capital, etc) into their equation they way many other airlines do, I'd question whether they're searching for the right candidates. But I guess if they view themselves as the top of the heap they may figure everyone automatically does want to work there.

I wonder how that will pan out if Delta hits a rough patch in 10 years?

Can any of you white, hetero, married dudes in your forties (like myself) believe that "networking" now includes having to go to job fairs sponsored by women, gays, and african-americans?

Can't wait till you interview at a major airline by a "African-American Lesbian" HR person!
