Some guys "hit the gate" just right. Back in the day when I was an IP, we had some 24 YOs who had jumped the hoops just right. Learned to fly/CFIed in school, hit the commuters at 21, upgraded right at 23, got some PIC time, and bingo, hired at 24.
Of course, many of those guys got furloughed for years, but you get the idea.

So I retired from the AF after 20, but spent the last year at jetBlue before getting the DAL CJO. So am I counted as a civilian or military? My guess is civilian but I consider myself military. I know a lot of my friends from the Air Force that did other 121 gigs before Delta. I don't think these numbers tell the real story.

I don't think there is a magic number. I just got hired with 2,800 total (almost all PIC and all of it multi- turbine); however I was one of the low time guys of the 10 in my interview class hired.

I think you'll be in the sweet spot for hours. I got a DAL CJO last week with 3150 Total, 1850 PIC. (All Mil)

Definitely in the ballpark. Keep saving your leave so you can start terminal ASAP. At current rates, starting a class in June vs August could be 250 seniority numbers... but either way you'll likely still be well forward of the wave's crest.
