Maybe some earned it more than others? (OTS vs flows?)

this is funny!!!. white males complaining about blacks, oops, i mean afro americans groups getting preferential treatment in the hiring process. LMAO, oh my the times has changed. I guess gone were the days kareem abdul jabarrrr wasn't allowed on a aero plane much less working for delta. The fact still remains that no matter what group your in, whether it is WIA or OBAP or WMCJAS(white men can't jump aviation society) the odds are stack in our favor. There is more white male pilots more than white women and black women/man pilots. New hire class will consist of more white males than any other gender or color, normally a ratio of 9.5 to .5. What i'm saying is, if you are a white male and have experience and can't land a job, then something is seriously wrong with you, because you are in demand!!! i am just saying. And please don't over react to this post, while i'm poking fun i am also speaking the truth...

The amount of PC today is truly amazing.

"Women" in aviation... organization of "black" aerospace professionals... "black" entertainment television.

Replace the word in quotation marks with the word "men" (or "white" for the second two) and see how long before that group gets run out of town on a rail... and rightly so.

Racism is racism... no matter what side of fence you're on... At least that's what I'm trying to teach my 13yo daughter.

But what do I know?... I'm a dinosaur.

Agreed. They are looking for continuous job experience (working through HS, college, and up to now) coupled with a good work ethic and a great education. If you were one of those guys who was not fortunate enough to have someone or some entity pay everything for you to go straight through college while not working, I would definitely include that in your application some way.

I would like to think that if they saw you working full time as a bag slinger or as an enlisted Air Force mechanic full time from 2001-2008 while also completing a bachelors during that same time, that they would be able to put 2 and 2 together seeing you bust your ass with a full time job and a full-time student load. Either way, try to annotate that somewhere in your application about working full-time while getting your undergrad. Hopefully that is a very well-deserved exception to the 5-year degree time limit.

Now, if you are like some people I know and blew Daddy's money for 8 years, while not working on the side, and all you have to show is a 2.0 GPA in history degree. Well, I can see why they would frown upon that.

On that subject:

In the 'Duties and Responsibilities' block, after the job description, I finished the block with 'This was a part-time job to help school financing'. And 'Reason for leaving' was 'End of Semester' (as applicable) The school financing note was commented on (briefly, read 'noticed') during the interview.

This was my way of dealing with my education history. Admittedly, my education history was not 'normal'.

Interview gurus; Your thoughts?

Sure, here are what that presentation had for flying stuff. Again, this is very generic and subjective, probably for a reason. And again, these slides come after the slide on education achievements. Not sure if that is intentional or not, but I think it is.

I really think people put too much stock in flying hours. Like someone else said, if it was just a battle of flying hours, a computer could simply email out job offers in order of the flight hours that you have listed in the application system.

In short, they are looking for a balanced person who is well-educated, well-trained, and is an experienced aviator. Not just the dude with the most hours or the highest GPA.

Flight experience - nothing earth shattering. Hopefully most of us knew they were looking for some quality experience.

Just a fact and that was my point.

I do know India is in Asia, but I know of a TKD instructor that states he's Asian, but does that make him from India?

I can guarantee you that delta does not have more lawyers than pilots. Delta does have many, but not that many.

My apologies for apparently stepping on your toes. Should have known better than to rub you the wrong way.
You didn't step on my toes, and even if you did I'm no one special. No apologies necessary.

Some universities had quota systems in place. Some of them had to change admissions procedures as a result of lawsuits. Are you implying Delta has a quota system in pilot hiring?

There are organizations that seek to help women and minorities succeed in aviation. Those organizations are open to all, as are the job fairs they sponsor. For whatever reason, Delta attends some of those job fairs.

I can't see even the remotest connection between the job fairs Delta attends and university quota systems changed due to lawsuits. Anyone can sue for anything, but I don't see a lawsuit based on their job fair attendance going very far.

As I said in previous post, if you ever get the chance to walk through a Delta pilot lounge, you'll be able to stop worrying about white guys getting hired.

Personally, I think the job fairs (regardless of sponsorship) are ridiculous and attended none. Is the job worth it? Only you can answer.

Good luck

Have any new-hires recently come through with > 3.0 undergrad GPA? I'm in that boat, actually just finishing up from one of those "large, aviation universities' online program" after almost 5 years that started after getting out of the military. Any thoughts about this? Any WAG's if GPA (specifically, high GPA) will be a large factor in interviewing and hiring in the next couple of months, years?
