Have any new-hires recently come through with > 3.0 undergrad GPA? I'm in that boat, actually just finishing up from one of those "large, aviation universities' online program" after almost 5 years that started after getting out of the military. Any thoughts about this? Any WAG's if GPA (specifically, high GPA) will be a large factor in interviewing and hiring in the next couple of months, years?
For the second question, based on who I have spoken to at DAL and based on the internal memos and the slideshow posted above, yes, they will continue to count GPA as a large factor. I am going to speculate a little and say that they will continue to view quality of education, quality of flight training, and quality of flight experience at least as co-equals. And under the sub-heading of quality of education, yes, I would bet a paycheck that GPA, university, major, and years to graduate will all factor into play - just like that slide above hints at.

C130, thank you soo much for your info. Years of reading and I gotta' say, that's probably the most helpful info to date.
I can check every one of those boxes except military. I have updated my app monthly for nearly 5 years. I have done pretty much everything that can be done to get that email. All I can do is keep going, stay positive, and keep my eyes out for opportunities...
Thanks again. Hope to join you on the line soon!

Sure, here are what that presentation had for flying stuff. Again, this is very generic and subjective, probably for a reason. And again, these slides come after the slide on education achievements. Not sure if that is intentional or not, but I think it is.
I really think people put too much stock in flying hours. Like someone else said, if it was just a battle of flying hours, a computer could simply email out job offers in order of the flight hours that you have listed in the application system.
In short, they are looking for a balanced person who is well-educated, well-trained, and is an experienced aviator. Not just the dude with the most hours or the highest GPA.

As toobdrvr1 stated as well. Can't say thanks enough for sharing the direct information. Like you said some of it leaves it to be generic and subjective, but it gives ideas and guidelines.
Thanks again!

Agreed. They are looking for continuous job experience (working through HS, college, and up to now) coupled with a good work ethic and a great education. If you were one of those guys who was not fortunate enough to have someone or some entity pay everything for you to go straight through college while not working, I would definitely include that in your application some way.
I would like to think that if they saw you working full time as a bag slinger or as an enlisted Air Force mechanic full time from 2001-2008 while also completing a bachelors during that same time, that they would be able to put 2 and 2 together seeing you bust your ass with a full time job and a full-time student load. Either way, try to annotate that somewhere in your application about working full-time while getting your undergrad. Hopefully that is a very well-deserved exception to the 5-year degree time limit.
Now, if you are like some people I know and blew Daddy's money for 8 years, while not working on the side, and all you have to show is a 2.0 GPA in history degree. Well, I can see why they would frown upon that.

Thanks for validating what I believed to be a good advice from others. Your insight is very helpful for those of us on the outside looking in.

I would just keep plugging away. Add some volunteer work, get internal recommendations, and try to add to your education/training section if you can. Try to take additional courses - either professional development or technical, if possible. Volunteer to be a safety representative or line check airman. Maybe find a way to be a sim, ground or CRM instructor at the airline or in the Air Force. Every box checked counts.

Yup, but it wasn't just Delta, I think all the majors, and the military, required 20/20 uncorrected in 1985.
29 years later, I'm still 20/20 uncorrected, and every once in a while, I'll poop in a box and mail it to American Airlines!
Just for old time's sake!
