Probably hard to discern the common denominator if there is one. I think the focus as most others is to first hire good people.

My own class didn't have any low time FOs but had everything from single seat military, higher time regional captains, LCC guys, a FedEx instructor and a Southwest guy.

Delta is my long term career goal and I just read the last 60, or so, pages of this and have a few concerns.

I just turned 38, am an Army rotor wing guy, currently going through fixed wing training, and looking to go to the regionals within the next year. BA of just 2.5 (used college for fun instead of actually focusing on it), two graduate certificates with 3.4 and 3.2, little volunteer time so far. No criminal charges, a couple diving infractions from over 10 years ago.

I haven't seen any mention of rotor wing folks with Delta.
The trend seems to be hiring younger lately.
When it comes to apps and getting "fix it" emails, are they looking for exact dates on jobs (to the day), residency, etc, or is the month good enough?

I have seen a couple regionals that Delta is known to hire from and a few they don't hire from. Just starting out soon, is there anything you would recommend as far as career progression? Some sort of a do and don't list? Or any advice in general?

I certainly don't mind putting in my time and paying my dues to get there, just don't know they right path to take along the way.

Thanks

Taco,
38 is still pretty young. I wasn't hired until I was 42!
Can't say about the rotor wing time, but I believe there's one or two former rotor guys at Delta that peruse this board.
As far as "fix it" e-mails, I'd make sure the dates (months) touch. For example:
Jan 2011-Apr 2012 - Asstant Fry Chef, Burger King
Apr 2012-Nov 2013 - Lead Burger Flipper, Burger King
Nov 2013-Jan 2013 - Unemployed
Jan 2013 - Present...

Apparently, the app reviewers don't like any holes in the timeline.

Good luck!

There are plenty of helo guys at Delta. You are doing exactly the right thing. Any quality regional would work to build some fixed wing time. The hiring picture 3 years from now will be very different from today. Your age is not a issue and may be preferred.

What about if it took like 6.5 years to complete an undergraduate degree due to work hiatus and personal business interests? I'm also concerned because I have heard second hand that Delta utterly detests more than 4 - 5 consecutive years to complete a 4 year bachelor's degree. I am currently an aviation master's student, FWIW. I don't know whether that will score me any points for not finishing the 4 year in 4....

Hard to know, but few applicants fit perfectly into a mold. I had more than a few speeding tickets and a suboptimal college GPA but shined in other areas. Keep up the good work knowing you can't change the past and be ready to honestly explain it when the interview comes.

I crammed a 4 year degree into 6. That included a transfer and a 1 year FDX internship. My point is it all depends on what you did and why it was done. If you can show it was to improve your skills then I don't think it matters how long it takes.

Default "non"gruntled

I am starting to get a little disgruntled on what I need to do to become a pilot with the Delta team. I have gone through this entire post and have found that while there are a myriad of success stories, there isn't any certain way to get a call. I have just about every bullet point one could throw onto their resume except a check airman. Multiple degrees, veteran status, heavy time and company staff positions. However I've found friends of mine with no type ratings and 3100TT get a phone call right off the bat.. I've been to hiring events, I've met with a lot of pilots, yet still need to know if there is some way to get noticed? I just want to be noticed with everyone else in consideration.

They look at the big picture. I was a 6 year guy with a very average GPA. They hired me. Keep pushing and don't quit cause someone told you, you don't fit the mold.

I think you summed it up.

Helps to have lots of people go over app.

Have you considered a prep firm?

Good luck
