I really don't think that age bothers them at all.... While deadheading last week, a 52 years old captain told me he had an interview set up with DAL. He spent a vast majority of the flight sharing what he did to get it and how much he loathes the "lifer" mentality. Very motivated guy.... It also seems that they also hire military pilots who are near 40 years of age and older. I am noticing that many of the older captains that I fly with are not as motivated to leave owing to kids and other priorities which consume their time. Meanwhile the younger regional workforce on a whole seems much more eager to leave.... Not a single one of them whom I have encountered wants to stay at my regional. Also I am not sure where on the app that it even has a place for age.... How would DAL even know how old we are?

They can figure out a rough estimate by the year you graduated High School. Most people graduate at 17 or 18

I am currently an aviation master's student, FWIW. I don't know whether that will score me any points for not finishing the 4 year in 4....

You can always apply at Hawaiian.

No college degree required = Don't worry about scoring points

10 years from HS graduation to undergrad degree. I'm at Delta. The rumor is probably not completely accurate. Everyone has a story. Just be ready to tell yours when you get the opportunity. Best of luck.

I took 7 years to get a degree and it was specifically talked about during my interview at DAL. HR kept mentioning that it was not DAL standard and I just told my story of college, flying AND having to work the entire seven years including summers to support myself and work towards my goals and get this opportunity today. Flashy? Nope but it was simply the truth. Almost 10 years later I still feel extremely fortunate. I had no hopes of landing the Job at Delta (did not fit the mold) and was shocked to be one of two that made it from the interview group!

^^^^ So there you go. And in my situation (above), the question never even came up in my interview. No one asked anything about it.

I took a break during school which resulted in it taking 6 years for me to finish my degree. I worked my explanation for this delay into my 3-5 minute intro and they seemed to accept that just fine.

This. They're trying to draw down the pool and the process tends to take a while during "normal" pool depths.

Hang in there.

I don't think the app review can be emphasized enough. It's great if you have all the bells and whistles and a person to write an internal rec. If your app is not perfect when you make it visible and your bro writes that rec, you very likely wasted a year or at least six months.

A friend asked me to write a letter and I was more than happy to. Found out after the fact that his app was pretty much toilet paper and he thought he would have time to make it look better later. Uh. No.
