That's a new one for me. What I'd heard is that the MD-90 is a unique sub model of it's engine family, which is where all the headache comes from as there aren't really all that many MD-90s out there. I could see TOC eventually going to approval to do the overhauls themselves, but my understanding is they cannot at this time.

Mechanics have told me that the differences are enough that there is only one shop willing to work on them anymore. Maybe the information is wrong, but if it's not then there doesn't seem to be any reason for us to be paying a big premium over the operators that have other variants.

Quick question, sort of off topic. Does anyone recommend a certain milestone as to when to put in the internal rec. currently 2500 total time, 23 years old recent upgrade to left seat, also have Assistant Chief Pilot background.

Every now and then sailingfun provides good info. But the odds of him being right are too low for me to ever place a bet on him.

80 already pointed this out. I, too, want to say that some 90’s are definitely being parked. I was assigned a rotation to take one to SBD last month.

Aircraft are also placed into storage to balance cycles relative to heavy checks.

88’s and 90’s have been rotated in and out of the desert for the last 20 years. You need to know if the aircraft is in storage or permanently parked. The current fleet plan does not have any major reduction in MD90 time. We have to many airframes for the fall schedule. You will probably see some A319’s and A320’s going into storage. Does not mean they are parking the fleet.

Needless to say, we digress.

I was on a flight recently sitting next to our mechanic. He said that as soon as this summer is over the retirements of 88/90's will increase well above the originally planed (this Spring) figures.
He didn't have any details, just more than planned.
Anyone heard anything similar?
