The AE closes tomorrow so probably early next week IF they work on it over the weekend.

I think the July 9th class was the only one being filled prior to the slowdown announcement. My best guess is a minimum 30-40 in the pool but that doesn’t account for any other CJOs that weren’t originally in the July 9 class.

Everyone? So where is the money going then? A trickle of 'new' growth airplanes, debt increase on those contained; a refinery that gave us a bit of an advantage wrt fuel prices... etc.... I agree that hiring might slow, but I am not sure I agree with your assertion that 'high' oil is the culprit.

Once again it’s not my assertion.its what the management team is stating. Delta’s fuel bill will be 2 billion more than the guidance they used.

July 12 (UPI) -- Delta Air Lines announced Thursday it will be forced to cut out certain routes after the peak summer season in order to offset the rising cost of fuel. Delta's fuel bill rose by $578 million in the second quarter over the same period last year, the carrier said Thursday. This year's total fuel bill is expected to be $2 billion more than it was in 2017. "We have seen early success in addressing the fuel cost increase and offset two-thirds of the impact in the June quarter," said Delta CEO Ed Bastian. Bastian said cutting undersold flights from the fall schedule should position Delta to return to margin expansion by the end of the year. It wasn't initially specified which routes

A single data point: I had a buddy get a CJO in Mid June, with only 4 interviewed, of which 3 got the CJO. He was told to expect Christmastime Indoc class.

United has run 120 new hires in the last 6 weeks and added an additional new hire class to August yesterday.

DL has done its hiring now y’all are in displacement phase. United went through it with the 757 and 747 phase out and now DL is going through it with 747 and MD80 phase out. The displacements never go where the company wants them too and the training churn is tremendous. The efficiencies that are gained through eliminating a fleet are not negligible especially when the fleet is as big as DLs MD fleet. I would bet the efficiencies gained in staffing will cover close to a years worth of retirements and upgrades. Just a few hundred 747 pilots shut United down for 6 months and caused the WB bids to dry up for close to a year. United is just now starting to get back into hiring and upgrading.

Well not sure how massive 105 acft are, but that's what I had on a maintenance ship ledger. Only 105 MD88's left in the fleet as of the January fleet maint numbers.
