Well not sure how massive 105 acft are, but that's what I had on a maintenance ship ledger. Only 105 MD88's left in the fleet as of the January fleet maint numbers.

Its over 10% of your fleet. aren't you parking MD90s too? According to air fleets there are 103 MD80s and 52 MD 90s so 155 total thats a big fleet to park over a two year period.

Seems like wall street thinks there is a difference.
SWA has a market value of 30.6 billon, they are not even close to any of the legacy carriers in terms of network.

They are the largest domestic carrier in the United States and have 733 aircraft.

The MD90’s are not being parked. About 4 MD88’s a month will be removed from service. They will be replaced by 7 or more 737/A321/A220 aircraft per month.

I keep hearing the company is worried about maintenance on the MD-90 engines. As in it’s hard to overhaul facilities. Could turn into a big problem short term, as in the next couple years.

Why are the engines a issue? They are in use worldwide on the A320.

My understanding is that the variant used on the 90 is different enough to be considered a distinct type, and one of, or the, only overhaul shop is in New Zealand.

And I've heard (possibly because they know they're the only shop) the cost to overhaul a 90 is about 4 times that of an 88.
