I’m gussing minimal. Unless the candidate also had a cjo at AA/UAL/UPS/FDX, they will show for class. No one is forgoing a DL class to go to an earlier class at jb/swa/spirit IMO.

I guess that was my roundabout inquiry. Are the other majors (AA/UAL/UPS/FDX/LUV) taking advantage of our lull in hiring?

I know at least one person who chose SWA over Delta.

Yes...I know FedEx has scooped up two DAL poolies that I personally know....both interviewed/CJO back in April.

He will be in the Dec class as he doesn’t have any other CJO’s.

I have two other buddies that interviewed with DAL back in April, then during the wait, interviewed, got CJO, and started Indoc with FedEx.

It's very possible that someone who got a CJO from Delta in the spring was already employed by a peer airline and this delay has caused them to keep their bird in hand.

Eh, it's going to happen. I knew 2 guys in the FDX pool that went to AAL...then went to FDX when called for a class after 14+ months at AAL. Plenty of stories of guys going elsewhere (at all airlines), while waiting for a calls date...or even after flying the line. If they want the other airline enough, they'll leave. Not a big deal either way.

And without any ability to predict the future, there's no real bad decision to make at this point. Sure, there are better places to work than others but unless you can somehow predict that a company will go out of business before you retire it's not like you'll be working in a salt mine somewhere. If I had a place where I HAD to live, I'd definitely give up a year or two of seniority to be hired by the hometown airline rather than commute to whomever called me first.

This is just how good it has gotten. In my day... yes I’m old and yes I said it. Regionals were charging $8000-$11000 for training and you took the first job offer for fear of never getting into the industry. This post would have been laughed off the internet 22 years ago. Well... if we had the internet. I think there may be some cave drawings of pilots being hurled into volcanoes for this kind of talk.

Word from the top, 250 to 300 needed for Summer 19. ~1,000 a year thereafter for as far as they can read the plan. Figure retirements and ~2 to ~4% YOY growth. The network supporting more larger jets than smaller jets right now. Move everything up one. If it is was planned as a 737-800, probably can use a -900. 767 to A330 etc ....
