Don't defer! Take the first class date you can. The only conceivable thing I would even consider worth deferring for would be a funeral and possibly the birth of a first child......Even deferring for that might mean the difference of being home for the kids birthdays more often and seeing them on Christmas morning when they are 6 years old. I would rather be there Christmas morning when they are 6 than when they are born.

Lol itching for the ER? Better to go narrow body, get senior, then waltz into the ER at the primo EU/west coast (and nothing but) trip level. Unless you want malaria, SVO in the winter, 5am LGA 4 leg domestic and maybe the occasional lucky CDG. JMHO. I just don't get the appeal for new hire ER enthusiasm. It's like dating a super fat chick with good genes. Yeah, there's potential down the road, but...

I didn't get into specifics on how long folks can defer, but my impression is that they're willing to work with you, especially considering the size of the pool right now. Probably best to figure out exactly what you need, and then either wait to receive your class date and talk then, or be proactive and let Andy know your situation so that he can plan around it. Best of luck.
