My gosh. that's insane. 89 hours per pilot per month? Apparently someone is flying his ass off to offset my number.

The union stats/charts/discussions ALWAYs say 87 + hours. You see and hear this # in base meetings, road shows etc. I wonder why it is 87 hours? I know of buddies in other airlines (Independent Union and ALPA) that are quoted the same number. We, as pilots, must be really cut from the same cloth except there is not one pilot that I fly with that admits to flying that much.

You guys are making a mistake by thinking guys are actually flying what they are getting paid. As an example, in the last 90 days my actual block time is just over 79 hours. In the month of February I got paid for 117. January paid 80:30 and March will be a min of 82:50.

If you are willing to do one GS a month it isn't that hard to credit that much. I regularly fly less than 50 hours and credit over 95 on reserve. When I have a line I drop down to the GS trigger and then pick up one GS so usually block about 65-ish and credit 90-95. I won't fly anything over 75 hours unless it is a GS.

I just did my medical and blocked 310 in the last 6 months. Credit for those 6 months was 546.

Yeah I could buy those numbers of 87 average. I flew 540 last 12 months and credited a little over 1050. Granted I derived this number by dividing my pay by my hourly rate, which includes profit sharing and that very small shared rewards.
Overall though the new hires should probably base money planing on that WORST case situation. Money might get tight those first few months but things get better in a hurry!

You will always get at least 72 hours so try to plan to live on it and hope for the pay others are quoting.

I budget for 72 hours of credit, typically fly about 50 hours a month, and typically credit 95-100.

The life of being in a critically short category! They don't staff it right, we make em pay.

Great point! That and my goatskin jacket worked wonders while I was in the Navy!
