What are the rules on shoes? Other than black, do they need to be laced, or are loafers ok? I'm guessing my Navy Bates will work, but they're not the most comfortable things. Not that they've seen a lot of use during my flying tours.

I ware loafers, SAS brand. Make sure they have no metal in them for the few places that don't have KCM.

I don't think the vast majority of guys look at your shoes

The FOM answer is:

Shoes

• Must be black, plain toe, smooth leather, lace or
slip-on type.
• Females - May wear conservative black pumps
(maximum 2 inch heels). No open toes or sides.
• Shoes must be kept polished and in good condition.

Boots
• Must be black, plain toe with no buckles.
• The top of the boots must not alter the smooth line of the pants.

Any idea if penny loafers (without the pennies, of course) would be considered plain toe?

Get the Premier Hat with the felt sweat band. Best hat hands down. In 07 the uniform vendors didn't sell them, not sure if they have picked them up. Also a little tip if you don't like the taller flying saucer look that the mens hat has(skinny guys look dorky in those, bigger guys look ok) get the female version. It's the same hat just a slightly smaller circle and it sits a little lower.

Everything else I would get from the vendors except maybe a belt and shirts.

If you are a OTS guy coming from another airline, just use your current shirts. The Abbots shirts suck IMO. pilotshirts.com will get you better shirts for way less money if you know what you like already.

Delta used to be a stickler in regards to shoes. Slip ons were not allowed and they had a whole list of restrictions. Technically any shoe with a design in the toe is not allowed. After the merger I think anything that is black goes. I just flew with a guy who wore black tennis shoes.....not kidding.

Spring some extra dough and get some slip on Ecco shoes. Airport friendly, very comfortable, nice looking, and I'm going on 8 years with my last pair.

Before I answer this, realize that I think any shoe that looks professional is good in my book. That being said, this is a plain toed shoe:

I like wearing boots. Mine are Ariat. Not that it's needed now with KCM but they are airport friendly (do not have metal shanks).

Just bought a pair of Allen Edmonds. Hurt badly during the one week break in period but now feel like slippers. They are made in the USA and can last 20 years if cared for. They cost $250-$350 a pair but are money well spent. And that's not expensive for a Delta pilot.

Allen Edmonds are the best shoes you can get period. I have over 10 pairs, and every one is fantastic. They can be sent back for reconditioning as well.

I agree that's what the piece of paper in my allen Edmonds said too, but when I sent back two pairs they returned them to me and said they didn't do that anymore.
