badger / luv -

Thx for the explanation. Weird how just the 737 pipeline squeeze is causing so many problems but it is what it is.

Guys, because I wanted to know who "they" was, I sent an e-mail to Delta / Andy about the 90-110 number mentioned above. Here's what Andy said: "That's an estimate, so no guarantees there. [The question of time in the pool] is always hard to answer because of the fluidity of the environment. I wish I could give you and all the new hires a concrete date or even a solid timeline, it just can shift too much and I don't want y'all to be in a sticky spot with employment opportunities."

So.....while Delta can't give us hard indoc dates at least we know they really are planning on a big push starting in January.

Don't know about you but it does give me a little bit more of a warm fuzzy.

Well F! Because of a mistake I made in youth affecting my initial GPA, a lesson that I learned, fixed, and moved on in life now will prevent me from ever competing for a job at Delta. And before anyone starts in on "well how bad could it be"... GPA = 0.4. Yes I transferred and graduated. Got a masters too. But that doesn't matter. I won't ever get to tell the story of why or what was learned. Something that was done 20 years ago and there is nothing on this green Earth I can do to change that. Doesn't matter what I've done since...type ratings, check airman, flew fighters in the AF...nothing matters but that damn GPA. Oh well...that's that I guess.

Well hell, you should kill yourself now.

If you don't apply the answer is no. I know more than a few folks who got hired with not so impressive GPAs/majors. The masters will help (that was what some of them concluded). All you can do is fill out your app spotlessly and count of them taking a big picture and then being able to talk about it in an interview. You obviously graduated with better than a 0.4....and got a masters. You might suck, but I wouldn't give up just because you had a crappy term or two. It will be apparent in your app that you overcame it.

As an aside, D also has the rep of being obsessed with speeding tickets. I was a little embarrassed how many I've accumulated over the years (7ish?). I got interviewed. Where I mentioned how I'd gotten another one between the invite and the actual interview (on base and therefore on no record they could pull, I'm pathologically honest). Far as I could ascertain, not a single F was given, by anyone.

Worry about what you can control. Past is past. I've met one or two fighter pilots at Delta, I think they like you guys.

Agreed!

There's obviously no way you graduated college with a "0.4". So you screwed up early in your undergraduate studies. Show them you learned from it (which is obvious from your Bachelor's and Master's) and that should do it. Delta is not looking for "perfect" pilots because there ain't no such thing, but they are looking for honest pilots and guys who can show they learned from their mistakes.

I also know a guy in my last 2 squadrons that started out with a GPA similar to 0.4. He's 2 months ahead of me on the seniority list now.

Years of college is for undergrad. The next question on the app is Master's Yes or No. If you took 4 years to finish undergrad and have a Master's, your answers should be "4" and "Yes."

Farley: "A lot of people take 7 years to finish college."
Spade: "Yeah. They're called doctors."

My first semester of college was a 0.0 (Youth, 20 years ago). I'm sitting on a 24 June CJO.....

Obviously GPA isn't a disqualifier.

Is your last name Blutarski? At least you didn't give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor!
