I'll second that. MikeF16 that was the kind of post that is really useful for someone in the pool or interested in delta. since everyone in the pool will start out as the most junior guy it would be great to hear what type of trips (layovers, report times, legs per day) a new guy could get on other attainable aircraft. Especially out of NYC since that is the majority of what seems to come down. Thanks again.

737 or 320 if given chance? Eventually I want MSP so 320 is logical. However, MSP 320 I imagine is a long ways away so I'll be commuting for awhile anyway. Do I bid the 737 since that's what I am currently on and that may help training and oe go a bit smoother? Would hope for Dtw as it is closest commute. Looking at the projected numbers Dtw will grow from 151 to 167 320 FOs, while 737 is 105 to 110. Nyc 320 is 76 to 84 while 737 stays at 163. MSP 320 goes from 268 to 303. So it appears the 320 is growing while the 737 is stagnant (I didn't look at any other bases). These numbers are what is current vs their August projection. Pay is pretty much a wash but reserve guarantee looks to about average 5 more a month on 320. The lure of a bigger and more comfortable/quiet cockpit of 320 is enticing, but so is the familiarity of 737.
Basically just talking out loud here.

The future is hard to predict as far as what aircraft will get you to MSP the soonest. The commute to DTW from MSP may be tougher than NYC due to the number of commuters. Someone else will have a more accurate assessment on that than I do though.
If it is going to take a year+ to hold MSP in any equipment I would seriously consider the 717. That category is projected to grow and you will gain seniority fast. There is almost unlimited opportunity for greens slips right now. If you want to get to DTW in the interim, I think it's about a 2-3 month wait once you hit the line.

The 737 is the furthest thing from Stagnant. Most people are getting based where they want on the first AE ( many holding other bases but havent been converted yet) and alot of the new hires are holding lines in NYC. It will only increase as we get closer to summer. The 320 is the most senior airplane in MSP too. MSP- DTW is a very hard commute, one of the hardest in the system. I agree the 717 is a money maker right now.

"Furthest thing from stagnant" is a bit of a stretch, IMO. It all depends on which base you're talking about. I'm ATL 73N B and have been at about 80% since November and am forecast to be in the same spot this coming August. All the guys hired before me in 2014 seem to be bailing off the 88 and 717 onto the 737 and ER. In my case, the 73N is, in fact, a stagnant category. I'm still able to hold a decent line and I can sit LC reserve at home if I ever wanted to bid reserve so life's still pretty good.

Exactly.
Glad I could help as my post was definitely geared to the mil guys who aren't familiar with 121. Nothing we do here is hard, but the days are long and I'm always tired and weary when I finish my trips. That said, my back feels way better now than it did in the military, I don't look like I was just thrown in a pool at the end of a flight, there is no email, no face time, no annual performance reviews, no awards packages, no mandatory fun, and most importantly: the reward for more work is more pay
