717 is a good choice. No differences, all domestic ops, pretty simple operation, and seniority comes really fast, with all the overtime you could possibly want. Don't look at just the pay rates. With a year of seniority on the 717 you will be relatively senior compared to some other fleets. With that seniority comes great benefits. Holidays off, first pick of vacations, first crack at green slips, etc.

Are you a 717 guy? If so and what your saying is pretty solid, there could be at least one happy new hire behind me on the 4th. No promises to my classmates with lower SSNs. I change my mind every hour waiting on indoc. 😎

Off subject a little. How do you guys/gals post those funny green smileys? The ones from my iPhone don't display the same on the laptop.

Edit: Disregard, found it.

A Captain recently told me, you can make as little or as much as you want on any airplane at Delta. You don't have to bid the biggest to make the most. Granted it also depends on how much you want to work for that money and availability of opentime or green slips. Point is don't just look at pay rates.

Outstanding advice! Thank you for sharing your captain's insight.

Agreed. Was hoping for a 73N to eventually end up in SLC but now I'm wondering about choosing an 88 or 717 to build seniority quickly and be based out of ATL while I take care of some things in prep for eventually going to SLC in the 7ER or 73N. Decisions, decisions, decisions. Tough to choose when you don't know what choice leads to what consequences....

I'll bet you a months pay (at either rate) that you can make more flying the 727 than the ER. There are ATL guys flying out of base green slips almost every day in NYC. 1 green slip day more than makes up the difference. In NYC, I get 3-4 green slip days a month and could have more if I wanted to work that much.

<this is gonna be like taking candy from a baby!> I'll take that bet! I made over 180K last year on the ER. How much did anyone make on the 727 last year?

Waldo-
Do you commute to NYC? If so, I may follow your lead. At least as I sit in the current moment's mindset.
