I admire your chill attitude about it!
So do we call you "Plug" now or later? And is there some kind of DAL tradition where the plug gets a party thrown in his honor or everyone above you puts cash in a hat for you? I've heard stories that at the AF Academy, upon graduation/commissioning the very LOWEST/last academically-ranked cadet gets a pile of money from all the cadets above them.
IMO you deserve something for your statistical misfortune.

The tradition of the eight ball is supposed to have been started by Bill “Deacon” Yantiss and Dave Ringwalt. Several years ago (early 90's I believe), the junior man in the class was given the classic (child's fortune telling toy) "8ball" to protect with his/her life. You see....the 8ball had all the answers.... (indoc exams etc) although no manager ever really *knew* that. The 8ball ceremony was used as an ice breaker of sorts and to get the class to relax a bit during the torturous weeks ahead as new hires. The 8ball had to go everywhere with the junior man and was occasionally taken for ransom (ransom paid was usually form of a pizza party). In most cases, it was easier to let it get stolen, pay the ransom, than trying to keep it in your sight the entire time. As legend goes, a US Marine who was the ball thought it not fitting that at the world’s largest airline he had to carry such a small kid’s toy. It was this Marine who started the bowling ball. This group took it very seriously though and even bought a bowling bag (to house the answers). The original 8ball lives in the Doubletree Hotel across from TK. The current ball was procured by a 2/00 LUAL guy to make sure the tradition continued in the merged company. Both balls were brought out this week to celebrate the return of the ceremony to Denver.
What kind of operation are they running over there?

C'mon, Mike! Surely you as a Viper guy can appreciate some pilot humor!
When I was a T-6 flight CC I stood up a flight for the 1st T-6 student training squadron. We were known as the Enforcers and I chose a western/cowboy theme for our decor', flying call sign, etc. Our 'award' to the student that was voted to have done the dumbest thing each week was a pair of cap gun six shooters that I painted pink. Their 'punishment' was they had to wear them in a double holster/belt in the flightroom at all times unless they were briefing/debriefing or doing formal student training (EPQs, stand-up, etc). Not mean to humiliate them but to razz them a little for being knuckleheads. Students would actually write poems that described their fellow stud's stupid event (which, surprisingly, were often VERY humorous, well-crafted poems) and then they voted who won the award. They seemed to have a good time with it. We went 49-3 on our 52 student checkrides, so I'd like to think we were doing something right.
Ahhh....."ball walk".....that one I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole these days. (

I updated the spreadsheet to include the 1 Oct CJO's getting 4/4 class. One of them went to UAL. If my math is correct, there were 40+ (44) people in the CJO dates picked up in the 4/4 class (Aug 26th 0- Oct 4). There are only 35 slots so assuming 40 people, 5 deferred or went somewhere else. By my math that is 12.5% attrition. But, it's all anecdotal evidence and I don't really know for sure. But just an interesting fact.
As for the 8-Ball or pink cap guns, that's awesome. I have been in squadrons where you had to wear mittens if you made the hang loose symbol with your hands (i.e. the sign of the devil) and we had a shame stick for the pilot who distinguished himself by winning the "hands of spam" award. All in good fun.
Keep the info coming on the spreadsheet. Next update I will be removing most of the 2015 data. Too difficult on the little Surface 2. So take a look at it and save it if you want it. Good to see ATL back in the mix. 190s can't be too far on the horizon (Fall timeframe?). If you want to be in the beautiful PNW and as far from Mecca as possible, I can't think of a better place to be. Plus, it will probably be super junior. God help you if I bid captain on it and you have to fly with me.
Anyone in Anchorage on the 12th can buy me a beer in Fletchers if you are there. Or, if you're junior to me, I'll buy.
cheers,
Badger
