Lots of variables. If you are commuting it's a different game since you probably won't have 100% double commutable trips on a NB plane. Trip construction, days in the month, and ALV also have large impacts. Many NB trips end up paying avg daily guarantee of 5:15 a day. To get to the ALV you have to work 14-16 days which would give you a minimum of 14 days off and a maximum of 17.

I would be able to drive to NYC. Which goes more junior in indoc, the 717 or 88?
Do you think after a year (717 or 88) I could hold summer vacations?

It probably doesn't matter, you should be able to get summer vacation on either one quickly. The 717 is significantly easier from the FO perspective, and is overall a much nicer plane. I would take NYC 717 over 88. If you prefer ewr then definitely the 717, we currently have a pretty strong presence there and most commuters try to avoid it. You'd be able to snag some pretty good trips just because lots of guys above you tend to avoid it.

NYC is jam packed with early report/late release combo trips. Of course there are exceptions, but getting consistently duel, or even one ended, commutable trips regularly will take some seniority in all but the 330 and above.
