Too bad we don't have some type of a National Union, where we could have a leader, who would say something like;
"Now that the bankruptcy crisis which plagued the industry in the past, thanks to the terrorist events of 9-11, is 10 years behind us, and now that the industry has consolidated, has figured out how to price their product and control their capacity, and now that every Major is making BILLIONS PER QUARTER, it is time for the leaders at UCAL, DAL, AA/US Air to finally REPAY their pilots for the sacrifices they made, in order to keep their companies alive." Instead of what he said to that reporter last week.
What was it?
Oh yeah..."The contracts are 'Mature'.
You KNOW the next time the economy turns down, (and it will) they will come to us again, for more relief. We need to be restored NOW, while they are minting money, so we can start saving our pennies for that day.

I know the pros/cons of publishing contract survey results has been beaten repeatedly the last 2 years, but how about publishing the company's openers? What did they come to the table expecting. It would give us a measure of the effectiveness of our NC. I certainly would like to see both results and openers after C2015. Holding my breath.

I know we -can't- do it if the MEC doesn't even want to try.
But this time around, I would not even mention pattern bargaining to the NMB. Instead, I would talk about the financial INVESTMENT the PILOTS made to SAVE DELTA, and how they are now ready to be REPAID! The very minute the NMB said the word "Parked" I would call a strike, immediately.
No cooling off, no BS.
I'd get some FUPM bag stickers to set the tone first, of course!

Second, we are due these increases without any concessions. Why you and a few others think it's too much I will never understand.
To me, permanent concessions are out of the question. Let's let them wallow in the mud until we get the deal we deserve.
I oppose any concessions, but that is not the will of the MEC unless it changes. Perhaps we will get some LAX reps that are not on board in the upcoming election.

It takes a lot longer to train up and replace 12,000 ATP pilots than it does to train up a 11 thousand ATC guys. Many of my college friends were controllers who went on strike, and a few month later, many of my furloughed American Airlines friends replaced them, with only a few weeks training, until they were recalled to AA 3 years later (1984).
I don't know if you've heard, but there's supposed to be a Pilot Shortage coming up. Where are they going to find 12,000 777, 747, A330, 767, 737, A320, MD88/90 and 717 type rated pilots to replace us?
I was one of the few commercial flights flying (cancelled checks, BOS-JFK-DET-JFK-BOS) the first night of the PATCO strike August 3, 1981. I got 'direct' where ever I wanted to go, because we were about the only ones up there! All the airlines had cancelled for the night. BUT it was only their Supervisors who were doing the controlling. Do you think SD is going to get in a Delta Jet and fly 4 revenue legs, every day, 16 days a month? Who's going to be his F/O? JG? Or that hot blonde chick in the training video?
I know there would be some scabs, there are in every job action at a major airline, but if we could get 95% participation, RA might wake up and smell the Restoration....or lose a lot of his stack.
As with C2K, the real leverage comes with lost ticket sales in the months prior to the job action, just by putting the thought of a job action into the public's mind.

We pattern bargained off of UAL. Got UAL +1% when the NMB released us into a thirty day cooling off period. I think we were about two weeks from an authorized strike.
Do you think we can replicate that strategy to get UAL +1% again? When do you think the NMB will release us into a 30 day countdown to a strike?

Speaking of DALPA insiders..Why won't any of them tell us how/why we CAN succeed? Where's the letter from MD telling us to saddle up and follow him into battle? WHERE IS THE LEADERSHIP?

Timbo answered the first question. The second two were driven primarily by profits and the fact that another mainline carrier had at least one higher payrate.
