We are paid to get passengers safely from A to B. And we will continue to professionally do so.

We don't need a "backpack" for that.

We weren’t.

We are just cost items, like fuel and landing fees.

Management’s TA proves that we have been manipulated and lied to all along.

Our past sacrifices resulted in a paltry offer of recognition. An offer aimed at achieving a 50% + 1 affirmative vote. That is not an offer aimed at a valued employee group.

My backpack is off.

I used to give 150% for this Company. Those efforts were based on mutual respect, when there was none. Those efforts were for a Company I believed in, now I don’t.

If I am not a valued employee, I’m not going to act like one.

It feels lighter and more comfortable without my backpack.

Customer engagement will come to a halt. Only those tasks specifically required of me will be accomplished.

Once again, my backpack is off.

I need a little ME time.
Im not sure how many years you have left but you are in for a bumpy ride my friend. United will always push for the cheapest contract they can get with work rules that may not be considered desireable. That's why we have ALPA. They put the pressure where it needs to go to improve things. It's not perfect because as soon as the economy starts turning south, the demand slackens and WAMO - here comes the concessions to keep our jobs. lUAL was into a very repressive work rules situation with very large pay-cuts. Then the merger and now we are trying to get it back. In this industry, there are winners and losers and the liquidated. After 29 years of going thru this, I'm guessing there will be more good and bad times ahead. You either got to suck it up or quit. It's your choice but again, there will be bad times ahead so prepare yourself

How do you suppose all those work rules, DB, etc initially ended up in the contracts. Must have been some gracious management teams over the years.

Grasshopper,
You had an epiphany. The backpack wasn't a good look anyway. Come to work, enjoy your comrades, the flying, the office that keeps moving.
This is a great job and we should leave it a better place than when we found it.

Mostly a thing called airline regulation. It ended in 1978.

What's all this backpack BS? Like we have a choice? Every day that we sign in for a trip we have to put on the "backpack". Just to do our job at a minimally acceptable level, we work harder, stay up longer, and are poked, prodded, and evaluated more than almost any other worker in America. And that doesn't take into account what we all did to get here..... Paying through the nose for college and flight training, six-leg days at a commuter for food-stamp wages, getting shot at in the Sand Box.....The list goes on.

Now, I don't mind putting on the "backpack", but I just want to be compensated for it, and treated with a modicum of respect by the Pretty Boys on the 4th floor....
