If they're doing that it also means there are a lot less pilots on property and upgrades are much slower. Can't have everything in this business. SWA is great but most guys don't seem too happy with the company when I'm jumpseating. Slow upgrades and a contract 3 years late.

Not quite, the average awarded line is 98tfp with 17 days off. The awarded line is just a starting point. Work rules play a huge part in this.

A 10 year SWA pilot is at the top of the seniority list is almost every base (the jr captain is around a 10 year upgrade right now). This means they have the option to bid weekday flying with lots of 1 and 2 day trips. Junior guys like myself who live in base like to pick up an extra 1 or 2 day trip here and there to supplement our income. The 10 yr guys generally give some/all their flying away and generally only fly high paying weekday trips or 1.5x premium trips or some combination. Reserves at SWA don't sit around so once the reserves are all used the premium starts flowing and the more senior guys can get lots of it especially during the summer & holiday periods. Right now I see senior guys easily crediting around 12tfp per day or upwards of 160+tfp per month.

Even junior guys like myself can average 8tfp per day throughout the year thanks to the ease with which we can trade and/or pickup. Ive seen classmates of mine consistently crediting 130+tfp month in and month out. I typically average 125+tfp in about 15 days and the system wide average is around 110tfp.

There are plenty of guys who just fly their line but there are just as many who work the system and make bank every month. Its not that hard to do at all.

Exactly right. SWA runs a lean manning model. The combination of low manning and very efficient trips makes it easy to make money if you want to.

I definitely agree with the 2'nd part as well. The co. is overplaying their hand and ****ing off lots of people in the process. I like the scheduling, flexibility, and the ability to earn but I wont bend over backwards to help the co out until I see a drastic change in management style.

Direct cut and paste.

Average at all bases=96.666 using normal rounding-97
Average at all bases=17.487 using normal rounding-17

Sorry, when I added before I came up with over 17.5 and rounded to 18 it should read 97 and 17 sorry for the math error it truly was not intentional and public math is clearly not my strong suit.

Many SWA pilots have this inferiority complex - they always have to boast about their contract and it seems they stretch the truth quite a bit. When I J/S with guys in the cockpit they always show me their schedule and tell me what they fly - because it's on paper right in front of you. On these boards....not so much. Would love to see the Company bid pack or whatever it's called that shows 97 trips and 18 days off as the AVERAGE for August.

There is no doubt that SWA pay is less than DAL - yes you probably can work more at SWA (key word WORK) and make more but your bid line will almost certainly pay less when you figure in benefits which you absolutely must on any pilot contract. 9.3% DC plan is pretty poor - around JB standards I think.

Tuck,

No "inferiority complex" here. I don't think any of the SWA pilots posting on APC "boast" or "stretch the truth quite a bit" when sharing information on our work rules and pay rates.
Numbers don't lie Tuck. Here are my numbers for the first 6 months of the year as a 4th year F/O:

TFP flown: 861.73
Days flying: 93
Hours: 431 hrs 49 min (does NOT include deadhead time)

Pay: $104.03 x 861.73 TFP x 1.093(401K match) + 3K per diem =
$100,982.83.
That total does NOT include profit sharing which should be pretty big this year. Last year was 9.6% expecting north of 12% this year.
So, call it boasting or stretching the truth or whatever you like but the FACT is that I as a 4th year F/O living in domicile will do well over 200K total compensation this year if I count profit sharing. Oh and by the way, as a 4th year FO I rarely can "win" premium pay (1.5X) trips. So the great majority of my flying was at straight pay.

Tuck, I truly hope that Delta and all the other pilots get what they want in their respective contracts but seeing as how many Legacy pilots like to compare their pay, work rules, vacation, etc to SWA I'm happy to provide the data so they can maybe get better pay, work rules and vacation at their airline. It only helps me in the long run if other airline pilots get better contracts. Cheers,

Thunder1

There are no new rates. This info is bogus.

These are the TFP rates. Multiply by 1.1313 for the hourly conversion to our rates.

Now 189
Signing 208 = 235.3
Jan 2016 216.32 = 244.75
Jan 2017 223.0 = 252.3
Jan2018 229.50 = 259.6
Jan2019 234.00 = 264

Just rumored at this point, but some buds at my guard unit think they may be accurate. Even without this raise, they still beat us fairly easily on W2, with less days worked Sailing...

No dog in this hunt 'ceptin I hope Delta gets an awesome contract so UAL has a big target to hit in 2018, but having said that here is my take of the above:

6 months / 93 days = 15.5 days worked per month or 14 days off on average.

At UAL, as a 20 year FO on the 764 I get 21 days off average (including vaca and sic) and am within $10k of the above with a far inferior contract but plenty of Premium Pay and Senior Manning. Whats the value of 7 days per month at home? And, I should note, I leave my house on day 1 around 3 PM for a 6PM flight then I'm home by 4PM on the third day so really I'm gone from home 48 hours or just over so to be honest I'm really working 6 days a month. I'm a guy who wants max time off, but I just flew my last trip with a guy who had a pay claim issue so he was showing me his monthly statements and he's averaging over $20k per month and he's still averaging 15 days per month off, again because of Premium Pay and Senior Manning.

Comparing SWA to Delta or United is disingenuous. They are VERY different animals and I would argue even VERY different jobs. I never applied to SWA and never would. Thats why Baskin Robbins has 31 flavors, something for everyone to be happy.
