They just needed a vacancy to keep upgrades going and have a place to put new hires, they were running out of places from 17-02 and weren't ready to make the next vacancy they wanted. So we get 17-03.

PBS question
I bid top 10 FO in base. The mock just came up and I wanted a stretch of days off and bid accordingly, ascribing 5x the points towards getting that stretch off that I wanted than anything else. but they put a trip RIGHT in the period that I asked for off!! What gives? Did I do this right??!?

If you desired max line range that may be the cause as it only respects your preferences if it gets the hours needed. Also a PERIOD of dates off only scores once (if you value it at 100 points that's all it scores total). A STRING of dates off would score for each day (valued at 100 points would score 100 per day). Do a little math with your other preferences to check that they aren't adding up or subtracting more points than your day off request. Best thing to do would be to call the PBS help people as they will look at your bid and be able to see what is actually going on.

If you want a string of dates off, bid backwards to forwards (like 20-15 Aug) and make it a high point set. Then bid something like 20 off, 19 off, 18 off, etc. back to the 15th with lower points set per day. Call the PBS folks and they can help you get the bid right. Has always worked for me.
