On a side note...the $10000 new hire bonus is about $6200 after tax. Ugh.

You should get some of that back when you file your taxes. Rates vary by state. Same thing would have happened at other airlines, so not sure why you're airing this grievance. Welcome to the show, buddy!

No, I know all that....I'm just saying it so new hires are prepared for a less-than-anticipated amount.

I would hope that new hires are aware that Uncle Sam still takes his cut. Does any one really expect a full 10 grand?

And why wouldn't they expect that already? Bonus tax is always withheld at a higher rate. That's why many elect to have it put in their 401k

Not "always", but the flat rate is the way EDV chooses to do it. If they added it to your pay and withheld it at the lower rate, it would increase your income, and you would have more withheld monthly than you do now, since it would put one in a higher tax margin.

Which is what the Recruiters said, only after you get here they say you cannot open the 401k for 6 months, so $6,000 of the $10k & $6k first two bonus goes to taxes instead of retirement...

Does our union have a position on recruiters giving out information contrary to workplace rules?

Look, I'm not sure what's being told to prospective new hires? And how can the recruiters be held accountable for giving out that so called bad information unless it was in writing? They are not tax experts, and I'm sure that there are other ways to find out more about the 401k than a pilot recruiter. You got to do a little research man. Most companies have a short wait to enroll in their 401k. This is not that uncommon.
