Well. That happened.
In other news, senior leadership was in ATL today.
It sounded like 175's are a strong possibility but it didn't sound like a done deal.
Also repeated the 3 DCI carrier goal that's been stated here before. Didn't name the 2 besides Endeavor, I'd imagine that's still in contention.
Lastly they commented on the slowed hiring mentioned in another thread, evidently we're so short on Captains that they're focusing the majority of sim time on Captain upgrades. Which sounds like a good thing to me. I know some guys like 100+ hour months but that's a bit much for me.
Sorry to interrupt the New York ground transportation flow conversation...

Well it’s another month and the company has found yet another way to reduce QOL for New York based pilots with these firebreaks. We really should have tried to increase the min day pay on the last contract. I feel like the crew rooms are going to get even more crowded with all these even longer sits each day.

So firebreaks help improve efficiency...but create more duty days. If efficiency is increased, we don’t need as many reserves. Seems like an obvious solution instead of screwing over lineholders with more days is to add more lines of flying.

And yet New York reserves on the 900 fo side keep going up, up and up. How in the world could they need 105 reserve pilots? And I’m sure the reserve grid will be red for the entire month. Wasn’t codomicile supposed to make a fixed number of reserve pilots more effective?

Talk to your Union reps people. Let them know that your priority for 2018 is fixing reserves. Key question for management is, how can Delta exist with (essentially) only LCR and we can't? We're 1/10 their size. If you want 100 reserves then it needs to be 85% LCR, 14% short, and 1% ready. (Delta doesn't even do ready reserve btw). This is doable, and would vastly improve QOL. This affects captains and FO's alike.
I'm not on reserve, but this should be our number one priority right now.

Fire breaks don't improve efficiency, the company believes they will improve reliability, because your schedule will be able to absorb delays. BUT how often is a plane waiting available in NY with no crew? Usually it's the other way around.
Efficiency is measured by block per duty, which fire breaks have a significant impact on
