I didn't know you fly that far West. Which hub are these flights coming from?

Unless you get the long, which are kinda hard to come by, a good portion of our overnights suck location wise. A lot like what you said, hotels in business parks, middle of no where near the airport etc. some of the new overnights coming out of Atlanta are not bad. But overall the hotel language in the contract needs a compete overhaul. 200 overnights are usually on the shorter side, like 11-13 hours and 900 is more like 13-15. Not uncommon to get 17-19. Cant speak for like holders how much they get he long stay which is 20+.

Biggest issue is the FA always seem to get a big say in where we stay or move to. And their opinion is basically a 2 minute van ride and microwaves in the room and a Waffle House to walk to. Where as most of the pilots wouldn’t mind a 10-15 minute ride where there is things to do or eat at. We do have some pretty good overnights though. JAX ans AGS come to mind. Others aren’t bad. But I’ve come to think of a gas station that has a subway in it as a luxury on overnights now

mpet is encouraging you to apply to Compass despite its questionable future.

mpet thanks for the mature response. I'm sure you're a pleasure to fly with.

DCA and LGA are relatively convenient to public transportation and are close to downtowns. LGA is also around the corner from Citi Field. ROC has a couple of cool museums that are a long walk or short Uber away. The Crowne Plaza at MSP is on the Metro; downtown Minnie is at one end (rent a bike and ride the lakes, or watch a ball game) and the Mall of America is at the other end (shop or people watch).

MSN and CLE are cool, too... you can measure how drafty the windows are by counting how many inches the curtains move when the wind blows.

How long do you have to report to duty on short call reserve in DTW? Are reserve FOs getting used a lot?

1:45 and no not really, but maybe more than nyc. Expect to be used about half your reserve days on reserve on the 900 fo side, maybe more on the 200 *at this moment in time*. All this changes day by day, week by week and month by month. Reserve won’t be long with the hiring taking place now so don’t sweat it.

Good overnights: GNV BQK EWN AGS GTR are some of the good ones out of ATL. TYS and ILM aren’t too bad either in terms of food. BTV is cool if they bring you downtown. CWA is nice. And it’s been a long time but CLT and CMH were cool a couple years ago.

It’s constantly changing though so what’s good now may get a hotel change or we stop doing those overnights all together. The contract requirement for a downtown location on long overnights is a good plus if you get any of the 30hr overnights.
