If they were just posted now, how were the new hires from May and earlier in June able to choose aircraft and base? Or did they just select aircraft first? Or is the first month of training all company stuff and FARs? Thanks.

If you look, they did some revision on how the new hires are given bases and whatnot. The fastread from the union the other day explains it.

For those of us who are currently waiting to start class, what would that new process be?

Long and short (from my limited understanding), they can't offer a base to a newhire unless they've been offered to those already on property. Over the last few months, new hires in one class would be assigned DTW 200, for instance. But they may have wanted MSP 200. However, the next class comes 2 weeks later and people are given MSP 200, without the people in the previous class being offered it.

Is the simple way to explain it. Short term, a few people on property may have been bumped out of a base they wanted, but shouldn't have been able to hold. They should be able to bid back to it quickly. Long term, this should make the process more transparent.

Hello, I've got two Jeppensen 7-ring Leather Binders. I got them used from Ebay but they are in pretty good shape. Turns out I won't need them so if anyone wants just make me an offer. Thanks. Just a picture below.

Why won't you need them?

I'll give you $2 each.

So essentially, they clump multiple classes into one group and the bids for initial bases go out like that? So the last person in the first class has high relative seniority because he's clumped in with the classes behind him?

In that case, it sounds like it benefits those in the bottom of their class, and hurts those at the top.

I'm going to be dead last in my class in seniority, so I'm hoping this might keep me away from NYC.

Not exactly. What he was pointing out was that previously, new hires were getting their bid selection outside of the regular bidding process, which meant that if a MSP assignment was available, a new hire could get it before a current employee on the next regular bid.

It seems they are changing that so that current employees move first, then the new hires get the leftovers, as it should be.

Being low in seniority will be relative, and impossible to predict. About the only thing you can count on is not being able to get MSP your first go-round. Having said that, I know of a new hire who was 22 that got MSP. So while not common, it CAN happen. Anything can.

In a way you are both right. They are grouping three classes together, so yes the bottom of the beginning of May class trumps the other two classes when grouped together.
Moving forward the next class that starts will bid, aircraft is the deciding factor. They will have to wait for two more classes to find out their bases. Positive they are going to most likely get the base they want if they chose the right aircraft, negative they will be waiting almost two months to find out their bases.
In consideration of the last award, there was a total of around 5 900's for MSP and no 200's. Most likely next month will change...

I'm 21, so I know I'll be dead last. I'm in the July 11 class, so hopefully they'll group three classes together again. I'm only hoping for DTW 200, so hopefully that will be easy enough to get.
