To keep the luggage topic going, new hire here, start class next month. So on trips what are people carrying with them? I'm assuming a minimum of two bags. A roller and flight case. Is it common to also carry a smaller bag of some sort for a laptop/ipads, chargers and stuff?

Most people carry the two you mentioned and another bag (tote, computer, cooler). I've seen a few carry four (tote and cooler), but that looked like a pain.

Take a look at mainline senior mama FA's. Carry less than that.

I got the luggageworks vinyl case for about $100. It holds the FOM,CFM,JEPPS, and my headset no problem.

There used to be a reference in the FOM saying that you cannot plane side check your flight case containing the FOM due to security concerns. That no longer exists, or at least I can't find it.

Common sense prevails. If I'm heading home, I'll plane side check it. If I'm deadheading or going to work I'll put it in the overhead for that small risk that all the bags don't make it into the cargo.

possible silly question - does the retention bonus start from the day you are hired? or in other words will you get the bonus while in training, IOE, sitting reserve, etc, etc ?
