complaints seem to be at an all time high when reading forums,
Just try to make the best of any place you work at and try not to get caught up in negativity. If you read threads about every other operators there are just as many gripes about the same/similar things.

My biggest complaint is lack of flying. Two months since finishing IOE and I've flown only 20 hours on reserve in NYC. If they needed me so badly in NYC (I am a commuter like most) then why am I never getting called to do anything other than airport ready reserve? Other than that it's been a good place to work.

Wow I wish that was me!! Everyday they use me. Most would love to sit and get paid to not fly. Consider yourself lucky.

That's the point of a reserve pilot. You are there incase of a sick call, crew timing out, and other unexpected circumstance. If crews are not timing out or calling in sick, fatigue, you're not going to fly.

Default Not flying? Really?

I was a spring hire and held a line 3 months after OE in LGA. On reserve i flew unit my eyes bled and my nails turned blue. 85 plus hours a month; and IIRC; 3 RR days (both of which turned into 3 day trips.

-Have you set your preferences up correctly
-How many people are below you
-How far above you did the last line go
-LGA or JFK

I have never heard of a 2016 hire not flying in NY. Feel free to PM me.

Recently, that has been the trend. I was in the same class as him, and I was on reserve for 1 month in JFK 200...I flew 13 hours (9 of which were in the first two days of the month). From the 3rd on, I sat 9 days of airport reserve and only flew 4 legs. That's been the norm the past few months as staffing levels pick up in NYC.

Yep, those who sat reserve over the summer got to fly a lot more but October/November has been terrible for those of us on RSV 900 in LGA (and JFK apparently). Had to email crew skeds so I can get help meeting consolidation mins. Of the 20 hours I've flown since IOE, 5 were assigned from reserve and 15 were picked up on open time.

Your math doesn't add up, you have 120 days from completion of type ride. 25 hours of IOE plus 20 plus 15 = 60 hours. Two months you mentioned October/November = 61. Half the time needed to complete consolidation of knowledge. Sounds like unnecessary emails to crew planning. I sat reserve for 11 months when I got hired. Sick and tired of hearing you newbies complain. Make sure you complain to your captains too they would love to hear how hard you have it. -carry on nothing to see here
