Ever thought about maybe trying to get hired as a permanent MEC chair? Seems like that might be right up your alley.

The required flyback amount was just increased. Senior guys get way more than 90hrs of credit with more days off. I dont see why anyone would do it. Better to enjoy those 18 day off lines with 92hrs credit, add a few OT turns and you are at 105 hours with 16 days off. Not even close to the crap the MEC chair has to deal with.
With technology the way it is, it shutdowns be much easier to hold regular MEC committee meetings on Zoom to keep them involved and working. The best we had was teleconferencing and it was just starting to have software to let us push out a PowerPoint slideshow. Now the stuff like Adobe connect is amazing. Zoom style video conference window, desktop for papers, powerpoints, videos whatever, chat window, instant message, all on one screen at once. It’s good stuff. |

Now, if you mean to imply the company would walk in, see me, and about face and leave

I prefer that over giving things away for a tweak job.

You’ve got good people there now; but the ones expressing interest in the job thus far shouldn’t be the only options. You have a complete full CBA negotiation in 2024 and making Envoy the best career possible should be the primary goal, not flow. The company will build/fix flow all on their own when/if they can’t get pilots. So, don’t waste negotiating capital fixing their recruitment program. seriously, start talking with your senior pilots that aren’t planning to leave. Get one that won’t mind 100 hrs pay credit with only 20 Hrs fly back actually requested. You’d be surprised how many would be interested but just don’t know the process to run for the office. It’s actually much easier than being elected a CA or FO rep. There is none of the ALPA nominations, ballots and stuff like that. I’d encourage the senior CA’s to consider taking on the job. If interested, call the chairman and talk with him. He can’t nominate or vote, but he can walk you through the process. His recommendation will carry a great deal of weight; as it should. as a senior lifer it might be nice to have some administrative leadership experience on the resume for the post 65 retirement job.... |

Yep, they’d certainly do that; and we’d be suing them and holding public press conferences about the mismanagement, incompetence, mistreatment of employees... topped off by refusing to bargain in good faith as required by law.

Would that be a good pitch for it? |

Wow, I could have skipped basic and AIT. All those runs, and push ups, and endless classes on tactics. Skipped the months of helicopter maintenance training. I could have skipped jump school and the fear of a broken ankle on every jump. Skipped Air Assault school and the rappelling from a helicopter and the twelve mile ruck march. And SERE level C with the evading, eating whatever we could find, drinking iodine water and the very realistic POW experience. And dunker training. And the joys of Desert Shield and Desert Storm with the horrible shots we had to take including the frozen one that left a huge lump on your ass for a week, and the depleted Uranium rounds making some of us sick (I was lucky, no effects yet).
All I had to do was go to a surplus store and buy some web gear and boots, and spend a few weekends doing some reenactments to get my military experience and cred? I must be stupid. Yes, I have only a military background but as I said, it's more than many out there have and I have been on the wrong side of tracers coming at me, blanks of course, but the pucker factor is high. I'm actually proud of having the background that I do and feel I can very closely relate to those who have served before. |
