Questions from a pilot looking to jump ship from their current regional. The first 6 are gripes about my company and wondering what it’s like at Envoy. The rest deal with these new pay rates and bonuses:
1. Duty days always getting extended into min rest 2. On hold with crew scheduling 2-3+ hours constantly even when not in IROPS 3. Early starts/late finishes no commuter friendly trips 4. Won’t honor day off requests 5. Overall morale of pilot group is fairly toxic 6. Mgmt dragging its feet in negotiations, seemingly not interested in retaining pilots. Obviously AA Mgmt came to the table but what about Envoy’s Mgmt? 7. The way the bonus table reads since I don’t have 750 hours I might not be eligible for any of the bonuses. Is that correct? 8. I don’t have anywhere near 750 hours yet but I am type rated in the E175 so would I be eligible for the $7,500 type rating bonus? 9. Would I be guaranteed the E175 since I am already type rated in that aircraft? 10. How is the training footprint different for a pilot who’s already type rated in that aircraft? 11. I read that Captain pay is applied at 750 hours but what if I chose not to upgrade or is upgrade forced upon reaching 1,000 121 hours? 12. Could I be allowed to bypass the bonuses all together? 13. I read that training is in Irving, TX. Are your sims there too? 14. I read you now have 12 hour long call reserve. That must only be a percentage of reserves on any given day right? Do you require “airport standby” reserve? 15. What exactly does “up to four” hotel rooms for commuters mean? How does commuter hotel rooms work? 16. Regarding non-rev travel: how many “friends” are eligible? The wording does use the plural form of friend(s). 17. How much is the “training salary”? Are we talking about 70-75 hour credit at appropriate years of service or some much lower arbitrary number? 18. When are you expecting to convert to the PBS system since the website says “coming soon”? 19. If given a CJO would I have advance access to any training materials like a study guide especially containing flows and callouts prior to training? I very much look forward to your responses. Thank you in advance for your time and effort in answering my questions. |
I'll try to give it a shot, others' mileage might vary

1. Duty days always getting extended into min rest Not always. Last day of reserve block - 50/50 chance 2. On hold with crew scheduling 2-3+ hours constantly even when not in IROPS Nah, 5-10 mins normal ops, IROPS - depends how bad. I had 15-45 hold times 3. Early starts/late finishes no commuter friendly trips 50/50 4. Won’t honor day off requests Depends on what exactly you're asking, need more details 5. Overall morale of pilot group is fairly toxic Complaining is always going to be there. Toxic - I wouldn't go that far. 6. Mgmt dragging its feet in negotiations, seemingly not interested in retaining pilots. Obviously AA Mgmt came to the table but what about Envoy’s Mgmt? That's a long conversation. 7. The way the bonus table reads since I don’t have 750 hours I might not be eligible for any of the bonuses. Is that correct? I think there's some newhire bonus, but someone who knows better will hopefully chime in. 8. I don’t have anywhere near 750 hours yet but I am type rated in the E175 so would I be eligible for the $7,500 type rating bonus? no idea on the new hire bonuses 9. Would I be guaranteed the E175 since I am already type rated in that aircraft? Nope 10. How is the training footprint different for a pilot who’s already type rated in that aircraft? It isn't 11. I read that Captain pay is applied at 750 hours but what if I chose not to upgrade or is upgrade forced upon reaching 1,000 121 hours? It isn't forced yet. Has been in the past 12. Could I be allowed to bypass the bonuses all together? The collective 150k - yes. Rest don't know 13. I read that training is in Irving, TX. Are your sims there too? Mostly yes 14. I read you now have 12 hour long call reserve. That must only be a percentage of reserves on any given day right? Do you require “airport standby” reserve? We don't have it in place yet There is standby 15. What exactly does “up to four” hotel rooms for commuters mean? How does commuter hotel rooms work? Pretty much like that - if you need commuter hotel, the company will provide up to 4 a month 16. Regarding non-rev travel: how many “friends” are eligible? The wording does use the plural form of friend(s). one registered companion + buddy passes 17. How much is the “training salary”? Are we talking about 70-75 hour credit at appropriate years of service or some much lower arbitrary number? cant remember, wasnt bad. 18. When are you expecting to convert to the PBS system since the website says “coming soon”? TBD 19. If given a CJO would I have advance access to any training materials like a study guide especially containing flows and callouts prior to training? I don't believe so, you get access at your day 1 of indoc I very much look forward to your responses. Thank you in advance for your time and effort in answering my questions. |
The Envoy pilot page states you must have 750 hours and E175 type rating to get the $7,500.
It will be interesting to see if Envoy hires from other regionals who provide AA regional lift since they're doing it for half the cost right now. https://www.envoyair.com/wp-content/...t_May_2022.jpg |
If you are coming in at 1000 hours and need 2500 to upgrade do you still get CA pay at 750 hours?

Thank you for the replies. What exactly is a “buddy pass”? Just one buddy? A monthly/yearly allotment of passes to give anyone?

It's a pass that you can give to anyone, and you have 16 per year.

Oh that’s neat. We have to choose 1 person for the year. Is the buddy pass totally free to them or a discount or are there fees like taxes etc.?
Pre-COVID there used to be a joke that D3's (these buddy passes) are for people you don't like. If used cautiously, they can be useful at times. The fees are expensive though, 60-80 per domestic leg and 100-150 intl. The sweet spot is long haul stuff where you can find a flight with seats in business class. But if someone wants to go to Cabo for Spring Break, that is not going to happen. |
