I don't hear many regional pilots coming on this forum saying how great their regional is, actually quite the contrary. Well there is one exception............you. "It's a great time to be an Envoy pilot" is apparently not shared by ANY of those I still keep in touch with and they span the seniority spectrum there and I mean "any" literally. NOW, you say "they ALL are crappy" ?

Well, which is it ? Envoy cannot be both. Again, this whole plan hinges on Envoy raking in 50 new-hire pilots every month and that's NOT shuffling from other regionals, that's new, entry-level pilots and the college pipelines will NEVER be able to support such a goal for Envoy. Hey, I get your sales pitch and I'm confident I know your motivations, but your utopia has STRONG odds against realization.

They have no problem with available applicants, although you'll notice the only Big 3 legacy CEO with no stated comment was Doug Parker. Delta and United have as usual taken the bull by the horns and shifted more 50-seat regional ops to mainline and (as usual) AA is still figuring out who they should follow.

Regional view ?

They are scrambling, watching CURRENT regional pilots shuffling around and very concerned. The comments by Empire and Cape Air execs are meaningless as neither of those carriers are domestic RJ operators for legacies. The fact is the ENTRY pool is virtually dry and it is THAT Envoy needs to make your sales pitch become a reality.

HIGHLY unlikely in my opinion and thus once that becomes obvious, another plan will surface and perhaps it's a plan they already have on the table ?

You make this article sound like these guys all have their ducks lined up and are in control and that is HARDLY the case. Envoy management is at the top of that list in my opinion. They're just plugging leaks in the dike as they appear and dancing as fast as they can to music with an continuously increasing tempo.

 

OPINION RANT.
IMHO, the well is drying up. The poaching has begun; and soon the consolidation will follow. RAH has already begun consolidating their mutiple certificates. The rest of the industry will likely follow. That will again "plug the dike" for a while. They'll poach more from non-owneds with better flow programs than we already have.

I agree with most of this, but poaching will become moot when AA's legacy competition acts to protect their feed with similar programs as Envoy. But again, even the ability to embrace aggressive poaching won't solve the real crux of the problem and that's the absence of a strong pipeline of new pilots to the industry and that takes years to cultivate. The University programs in general and AAG's internal agreements will only satisfy a fraction of that need soon.

The almost certain result is necessary adoption of another paradigm to kick the can further down the road and that may or may not benefit Envoy pilots vs. pilots at regional X or Y. Perhaps it IS a good time to be a pilot at a crappy regional like Envoy (your conclusions, not mine), but I think it's premature to claim it in the LONG run is better then another crappy regional. In attempting to do so, you're representing a virdict that hasn't been rendered by a jury yet.
