Lets not forget simple mathematics. if i can get a gallon of gas for 5 cents cheaper at this gas station why would i the elect to pay a higher amount at the other gas station, you would not. Granted the same argument can be and is being made about regionals, but the same logic can and should be used between regional and mainline flying. Why would management grow the mainline side when i can do the same thing with my feeders at a considerable lower cost. In other words if you low ball today the other regionals you just put yourself out of the mainline job because they wont be hiring that many.
mainline cannot reduce frequency in markets but they would have to if they take regional flying back and this would open the door for LCC's to come into that market and take a larger share of the market, again you put yourself in danger of never getting to a mainline.
But what the hell, it is all about ME (mentally estranged).

from a recent Delta interviewee:
Good thing we're taking pay cuts to keep regional flying attractive to our masters....
Delta's goal is about 4,000 pilots in 3 years. JetBlue wants another 180 this year above what they've already hired, and 400-500 next year.
Here are some hiring numbers directly from the head of Delta's training department. Delta's goal for 2014 was 300 pilots, but was bumped up to 550 early this summer. As of SEP 1, they still have 480 unfilled seats. So, the official goal for this year is now 980. The goals for 2015 and 2016 are 1500 per year. We were told if 85- 105 pilots are not hired and trained each month for the next 6 months, starting in JAN the 2015 flight schedule would need to be trimmed. There is NO hiring pool at the moment; after pilots pass their backgrounds checks they get a class date with 2 week's notice for their current employer. We heard multiple stories of new hires (MD88 and 737) sitting reserve for only 2-3 months before they could hold a line.

It's not about me, it's about what's right. Doing what's right is rarely the "easiest" choice by the standards of the world. That is why people lacking courage rarely do it.

Pilots can't control what the company will or won't do, those airplanes were leaving the property regardless. The pilots have spoken knowing full well of the possible outcomes.
If the American wants to shrink Envoy and shutter it that's for them to decide. It's probably for the best anyway and the whole regional airline experiment is best ended.
In my opinion, it doesn't really make sense to vote for something that will simply delay your departure from the regional airline. I lean on the side of the argument that says regionals are not a place to make a career, they should be up and out only if they must exist.
