Q-73. Can the certificate holder make one phone call to a flightcrew member without interrupting his/her rest?
A-73. The FAA has a “one phone call” policy that “generally” allows a certificate holder to initiate one phone call during a crewmember’s rest period. If the crewmember voluntarily chooses to answer the phone call, the FAA does not view the phone call as disruptive and breaking the rest period. However, if the phone is not answered and multiple calls are made in attempt to get the phone answered or the flightcrew member cannot return to sleep after answering the phone call, then the sleep opportunity may have been interrupted in that circumstance. Thus, a certificate holder runs the risk of interrupting a flightcrew member’s sleep opportunity during the rest period by making a phone call.

Get your limitations down to where you can recite them in your sleep, then move on to systems. I like the switch approach. Know what every button you can manipulate in the cockpit does, and what it’s limitation and abnormal implications are. Then flows, then fly.

Agreed. I do a group txt for all the new hires that get assigned to me. There’s no reason you shouldn’t have received that at least as a bare minimum to get the ball rolling.

Let ALPA know you haven’t had any contact so at least they can weed out the people aren’t fulfilling their obligations.

Even though almost all of ALPA is volunteers, there’s still no excuse as a volunteer to entirely shirk what you said you would do.

Union came in yesterday and briefly mentioned mentors. Dont remember them saying when we actually get a mentor.

When have yall gotten a call/text from your mentor in training? Early on or pretty late in the game?

10 months so far and I’ve never heard from any mentor.
