Last I heard, the Negotiating Committee was in talks again with the company over RSV. But keep in mind, this will be like the 4th or 5th attempt in the past few years to try to come to an agreement on new RSV rules. I'm not holding my breath.

You don’t work here do you? If you are on reserve then you are back on duty (long call) at midnight the next day. So when they call you past midnight then you are legally required to have ten hours of rest. You can not wave this.

When was the last time you stood reserve?

Sorry, but if you end a reserve period at 1800 on one day, then decide not to confirm an assignment, at 0400 the next day you have had a legal rest period and can be called as early as 0400.

If what you're saying is true, no one would ever confirm an assignment so they wouldn't have to do anything before 1000, which is absurd. That, or they wouldn't confirm so their duty-day would start at midnight and be done early in the day, since they are being called at 0000 hours. Equally absurd.

What you're saying is actually wrong, and was just addressed in a union email. CS is NOT supposed to call you on a duty-day and put you back on a rest period to make you legal again the same day.

Apparently it has been happening with some frequency of late, and the union would like the practice documented.

There is no such thing as "long call" at Envoy, either.

And that is why they preassign 4am rap to everyone they can, because you don’t have to confirm or pick up until midnight. That game played out years ago. That’s why alpa has been working out new rsv language

The practice is if you are on duty and you don't confirm they call at midnight and put you into 10 hours of rest. If they call at 4 am you still need 10 hours from then so you'd start at 2 pm. 5 years of reserve has taught me this and that is CS understanding too. The caveat is if you have a preassigned rap 4 am or 601 am after a 30 hour break, it will revert to that once confirmation window closes. Don't where you have gotten this info. And yes many people don't confirm so they don't have to start till 10 at least captains

We don't have "long call" at this company, either.
Forced reserve guy for over five years. I have only held a line four times in my entire time at Envoy. So trust me I know what I am talking about.

I have no idea how you get it so wrong. If you are on reserve tomorrow and you dont have a reserve assignment then at midnight your rest ends. If you read 117 you would understand that this falls into LONG call rules. A pilot on reserve not specifically assigned a RAP or airport standby is a long call reserve pilot. Once you go into your reserve day and end your rest then you need 10 hours of rest.

The absurd scenario you talk about ACTUALLY happens now. Try it. Works like a charm. It really works when you wait 15 minutes and call them back and then have them give you a 1015 RAP and you get called at 1005 and inform them you interrupted your rest and you need ten more hours. (This is one of those times where you are just sticking it to the guy senior to you instead of the company. Only do this if you really need the day off.) This whole reason is why we have pre assigned RAP 1 on your first day. Day 1 is the only day you are contractually required to come in early. Every other day you can force an 12 pm show time at the earliest. There are guys that actually junior guys that proffer S1 and don’t confirm it just to force a RAP 2 and avoid a S2 or S3. (I actually hate it when guys do this. Please don’t be that guy.)

I wish we could have this conversation over coffee or beers so I would feel less like a “know it all” ass typing this out.

I should add that it's possible scheduling is trying what is mentioned especially with new hires. They like throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks. Don't let it stick and call them out! Especially since this is the only leverage we have for new reserve rules.

I'm just glad you did so that I didn't feel like I needed too.

Read the reserve rules of the contract guys. For one, there are some good gems in there.

Be careful, they’re allowed to call once and it’s not considered interruption.
