New Hires - Bases and Reserve Time

I'm an EWR FO: started 21May18. I was SC reserve through Feb, held a reserve line in March, LC reserve in April, and holding a line this month and in June.
The switch from short on FOs to short on CAs happened in March, so block time is getting lower for reserve FOs. That said, hopefully the new hire/upgrade machine will continue to spin up and this airline will start to move closer to what other regionals look like over the next year, in that the move from new hire FO on reserve, to line holder, to upgrade will shrink down to something under 3 years. XJT just absorbed the last of the ASA captains over to the 145, so the normal FO to CA upgrades should restart relatively soon. I'm hoping to be upgrading by this time next year, if I haven't moved on.

Sounds like the recruiters stating that some bases are down to a month of reserve was a lie...

Maybe, maybe not. Those can fluctuate. It sounds like there is an imbalance between CAs and FOs. As more CAs are spun up and they can “refield” -145s reserve times will probably drop.

One more thing, we barely hired at all last year. So what he went through is going to change dramatically given the turn around in hiring.

I do think that with United buying us and dramatically more hiring, the “normal” pipeline and progression will return over this next year. I also expect the captain upgrade machine to fire up shortly and see FO upgrades consistently. That’s not just my opinion, but based upon what the training folks are saying.

Hello to all! Pretty excited about getting started. I just accepted the CJO. I have family in Newark I can stay with near the airport so I was thinking about going for Newark as a base. I would prefer Houston but from what I hear, Newark is most Junior. Any idea on what reserve would be like on EWR vs IAH or CLE?

Also, congratulations on the CJO.
