So does the 175 have three cup holders on the captain’s side?

It’s not for right now, but if a new hire gets one in training they should probably plan to be on reserve for some time as more FO’s who are senior to them transition over to the 175 in the coming months. Case in point: my sim partner in the ATP class a year ago will be transitioning to the 175 in the coming months. He’s based in Chicago at the moment but will be transitioning to Houston to fly the 175. So he and other FO’s like him will keep newbies on reserve.

I think the 175 went junior on FO’s because a lot of FO’s either A: wanted to pass on this initial fielding to let more junior guys work out the kinks of operating a new airframe or B: expect to be moving onto a new airline within the next few years, so why bother learning a new airplane this year and another one within a year or two? I’m in the latter group. Heck, I plan to stay 145, become a CA ASAP to log TPIC, and start snagging interviews to move on with my career.

Quick question since this is ‘new hire’ related....interview to class time.

How quick or long will it take if you to get in to a class if you have a successful interview and offered a slot....two weeks, a month, 2-3 months?

Appreciate the help in advance!

I interviewed May 29th start ATP this Friday the 14th and Indoc the 24th. That’s mostly because I needed to give a 2 weeks notice at my current job. I would imagine the process could be as short as 7-10 days.

Hoping to get hired if successful interview end of this month. Is it safe to say any new hire put on the 175 is going to have a long reserve and upgrade wait? Hoping to get IAH so w/e gets me there quicker, I’ll take.

XJT is making a fleet change seems like. Probably an incorrect guess, I’m still learning how this stuff works 🤷*♂️

The company is not changing fleets, it is trying to grow. There are over 100 145s in the desert that United has told XJT to fly if they can man them. Right now the company has enough pilots in the training pipeline currently to staff the 25 new 175s coming by the end of the year. I believe they are also trying to get a little fat on pilots on the 175 side so they can be in a position to accept an additional 2 per month if they can win the contracts expiring with Mesa, as well as get the 25-39 new 175s recently purchased by United. If all goes perfectly XJT could be flying as many as 100 175s in the very near future.

What they are trying to do is not screw up any potential 175 flying coming their way while also flying as many 145s as they can man. The new 175 sim should be online very soon, but Embraer provides training for multiple crews as part of the purchase agreement on a new aircraft, and that is currently being done in STL. The 175 pipeline is almost in full swing, but training into the 145 will by no means slow down.

The Captain upgrade time, by the way, will be 2 years or less before 2 years from now, i.e. get in NOW
