So compare that to regionals where pilots are flying 10 hrs a month or less and it should be a no brainer for you. However for someone with years of seniority (of which there are a lot) who are used to the highest QOL in the industry (which XJT has historically had) and you end up with a lot of complaints. Also a lot of people left the company as it was shrinking over the past several years. When a company shrinks upgrade times go high and so a lot of people felt they were better off starting at the bottom of a different seniority list. Now there is tons of flying with tons of growth potential, which has led to the overworked scenario.

Going forward the attrition should stabilize, the workload should return to normal and the training department should be able to turn out pilots at a faster rate. Upgrade times will come down to 2 years or less one way or another. Although the most recent captain award was to an FO who had been here 3.5 years, there are only 400 pilots between that pilot and a brand new hire, of which 200 have joined since Jan 1. To simplify, you need 800 new hires to upgrade 400 FOs. If they can get to 60 per month getting out of training (work left to do here but they are building the foundation) then 800/60= 13.33 months. In other words, come now and as soon as you hit 1000 hrs you will upgrade. And because we are short handed and spread thin you will get 1000 hrs here as fast or faster than anywhere else. Definitely much faster than Endeavor.

Add in upper 1/3 pay, industry leading benefits and commuter policy and I can’t imagine why you would pass the place up. Just remember when you sign up to fly for a regional the idea is to be stepped on and run over. It’s like that everywhere. Bottom line, get in NOW. Get on the front end of the wave, not the back end! (SkyWest, Republic, Endeavor)
Makes sense and for someone like me, being overworked and stepped on is what I’m conditioned to coming from the military. I’m looking to fly as much as the regs will allow and upgrade as fast as possible. Thanks for all your input! Sounds like it’s ideal for someone in my shoes!

LoL, Subodh I have a used car lot around the corner down here in Smyrna that I could use your help at. Have had a few cars on the lot for months now that people peck at now and again but won't buy. You seem pretty good at selling sh*t sandwiches. Wanna stop buy and see what ya got?

You’re right, let’s start telling people to go elsewhere. I bet if we do we will get a raise. Makes sense now.

I bet that QOL will get a lot better too without any new hires.

I see the logic now. Thanks for showing me the light.

You’re telling all the senior experienced people to leave...What’s the difference? We need more pilots we all agree. Why are you encouraging people to leave? Hmmmm

Because he wants to see movement. It takes senior people leaving PLUS new hires arriving. When it’s all FOs and low seniority CAs who leave, the problem continues. XJT has a lifer problem. Unless that is solved somehow, nothing will change. When I left XJT, I had been there a looooooooong time, and I was still a SUPER junior CA. I had been a CA for 5 years.......never once got off reserve. Not even a relief line. When the top of the list isn’t ever going to leave....and the fleet count is shrinking...........that’s an issue. I have nothing against lifers, and they ABSOLUTELY have the right to make their own career choices.......but their existence does cause a problem. Nothing personal. Just a FACT.

Why not just move them up to United then? That solves that issue and highlights the problem with the CPP.

That SHOULD have been what the CPP accomplished from the beginning. For whatever reason, that didn’t happen. I think the current situation is really bad for XJT, though.

(Just to clarify.....I happen to agree with what DoSomePilotStuf said at the beginning of his tirade. I also happen to think he’s being a total dikk about it, and making it overly personal)

The problem with XJT is not the number of lifers, but the percentage of lifers to the total pilot pool.
I'm willing to bet SkyWest and some others have just as many, if not more lifers especially after K4 hired away over 100 from the top of the list. The issue started with this hiring wave when majors started hiring FO's with zero TPIC over experienced captains and was exacerbated when XJT went through the wind down with SkyWest ownership.

I agree. I shouldn’t have gone on the attack.

I don’t know why the big 6 have a problem with regional lifers. It sucks that they do. But waiting it out is obviously not a strategy that is going to work. My point in all this was that it’s not going to change. I wish the senior guys would accept that. That is most certainly not XJT’s fault.

So it really leaves 2 options. Put your head down and go to work and please stop with all the toxic attitude, or re start your career at an LCC.

If in 5 years I’m not at the big 6 that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I don’t feel like I just deserve the CPP. It’s a carrot on a stick. Anyone sticking around waiting on it is kidding themselves. It’s a recruitment tool, yet most of the recruits see right through it while it’s the lifers being strung along with that joke of a program. I don’t wish they would re-vamp it, I wish they would kill it all together.

FlyRight2876 I apologize. I was out of line. I could have kept it classy and still made my point. Sorry
