So, you think that these people sitting at home and collecting more money than they made while working are going to spend it on vacations and other unnecessary travel? To be clear, I'm ok with that since my company will benefit from it. I'm just thinking more long term than you, I guess.

It's probably a healthy combination of all factors. Right now people have no where to go anyway, everything is still closed, Disney, theme parks etc. The real indicator will be when those places open, does passenger throughput greatly increase.

I don't think the people who make more money from unemployment then actually working is the market the airlines are banking on to save the industry.

Passenger count is down 90% but so are the number of flights, unless more flights are added passenger count doesn’t have a lot more upward movement. It’s not really possible to get more passengers right now with the limited number of flights. Now United has to figure out how to add flights last minute(45 days)and sell them

The flights are already on the books. The company tries to cast a wide net, and then cancel and consolidate flights as the departure date nears. The flights are there, the passengers aren’t.

As a furloughed pilot trainee, I will make more money on unemployment because of the $600 override. If I can ever get my claim approved, which has recently been denied. I've called 150+ times today and haven't been able to speak to a person though.

Advice to all: don't get furloughed, but please remember those who have been

They were there, they are not there now. The June schedules are already published with significantly reduced flying. For April and may they had relatively full schedules then cut them as they needed to. June was published and sent out to regionals withe the flying already cut, now they need to somehow add it back cause they cut it to early

United and UAX have planes and crews sitting around doing nothing. They can do an equipment swap for a bigger plane in the short term. If 2 daily flights on a 145 are filling up, put a 175 or 737 on one of the segments. There are plenty of 777’s and 787’s collecting dust to use if the higher density routes start to fill. Seating capacity isn’t exactly a problem right now. I wish that it was.

You'll get it eventually. Most states are paying back to the date of eligibility so your first check should be nice. Still stinks though.
