Lots of opportunities everywhere. Not my battle either, but i have friends there too and i'm dumbfounded why they are still in denial. I hate to see good people in the unemployment line. But management has been beating them up and giving them empty promises for YEARS now, and like a battered wife they keep saying "but he still loves me" and they stay. It's actually painful to watch, even on these forums.

Things could be fine. Every contract airline has a DOA date until they sign a new contract, then the dead date only moves back.
They have been awarded dual class airplanes recently and investors have been told they will become a dual class airline.
SGU expects to be awarded more flying for SkyEast simply because of industry wide pilot supply issues.
Look at the soft landing deal, what would have we needed to bargain away only a few years ago to carry our longevity into another airline.
I don't know why anyone has gone to xjet in the last 6 years (living in domicile excluded).

Nobody has time to leave. There are deck chairs that need to be moved.

My guys are getting out. Mostly lateral moves to immediate money and places that value their longevity. Couple friends were military guys who came for the quick ATP and who have since bounced - not that I blame them, I definitely commend them for that.

Otherwise - it is painful to watch from the sidelines.

I don't know why anyone has gone to xjet in the last 6 years (living in domicile excluded).

What we bargained away was an ironclad fragmentation policy included in CBA 2007 which would've transferred ASA pilots to Skywest along with the airplanes (starting at the fifth plane/calendar year) allowing us to keep our doh seniority. More than 100 ASA pilots could be at Skywest now with their original seniority. Soft landing, which is denied to even exist, is a pacifier.

Inc solicits and gets awarded all flying and determines where it will go. I'm not sure ASA pursues RFPs independently anymore. Skyeast will not gain additional flying, but flying will transfer to Skywest at a manageable pace allowing inc to maintain overall market share while eliminating redundancy and overhead, and increasing profit margins by lowering seniority-heavy crew costs and selling former ASA assets. Good business one has to admit, but will be at our peril.

Meanwhile some of us will have the opportunity to go with our longevity when we should've gone with our seniority. But it is what it is and we just have to roll with it. Fortunately, there are plenty of opportunities and although it's stressful, it'll be ok...but not at this company.

What happened? I'd be curious to hear the full history.

You can search the ExpressJet threads and find the details but,

CBA 2007 included a "fragmentation policy" that provides for the transfer of pilots with airplanes within the Skywest system with seniority. The CBA specified "sale, lease or any other means".

In the 2012 TPA, after the merger with xjt, the "lessor clause" was added. This means that aircraft returned to the bank are exempt from the fragmentation policy. This provided a pathway to transfer airplanes from one entity to another by returning the airplane to the bank and re-leasing to another entity without transferring pilots.

This happened under a previous MEC and CNC and after exhaustive attempts to find out how and why this happened, and what was received in exchange, there has never been an explanation.

My only question is... Why would you ride it out and go to Skywest with longevity but not seniority, when you could go to an LCC or mainline carrier??? Everyone is hiring! The biggest epidemic in the regionals is that pilots suffer from malaise and low expectations.

And herein lies the common misconception of the regional pilot. Almost everyone I know at my airline has an active airline apps profile of some sort. They have had this profile active for quite some time. Many update the profile and attend job fairs. I know very few people at our regional that have actually been hired at a major. Everyone may be hiring but they apparently do not want to the Herpes Xjt virus on them. Seems there is some kind of stigma on the XJT (ASA) group or something. I think Delta hired like 64 guys out of 1300 last year from the entire XJT group. Yuck.
