Actually, no. "...were not any reading comprehension tests..." would be correct, the way you were trying to correct him. You would not say "There were not reading comprehension test". Were is used with plural subjects.

"...was no reading comprehension test..." was grammatically correct. Was is used with a singular subject.

Sometimes I wonder if this is a site for professional pilots or petulant children seeing who can scream the loudest. Can we get back to intelligent conversation please?

Yep. The problem with thinking one knows everything is that one makes incorrect, corrections.

My most humble mistake to drop an "s" from test. My phone doesn't always provide the best viewing area for proper responses without auto correct.

There is nothing humble about being incorrect when attempting to correct someone. Just hang your head in shame, and try again tomorrow.
