Getting to Purple
Good morning
I am just wanting to pick your brains for a second about FedEx. I知 a regional FO (soon to be captain) flying for one of AAs wholly owneds. I live semi local to Memphis (west AL) and would move closer to Memphis in a heartbeat. FedEx has always been my dream job. I知 just wondering what boxes get you in the door the quickest. I am working on a masters, I plan to put in for check airman as soon as I possibly can after I upgrade. I just am curious are there any other things I can do that will improve my odds of getting the call to interview?
Thanks!

Advice...FedEx goal
Just now starting!
Hustle to get your 1,000 TPIC. Don't slack on it.
Volunteer - OBAP ACE Camps are a great local event every Summer in Memphis.
Work towards becoming an LCA or getting into your Regional's Training Dept.
Update your application at least Bi-weekly once you meet the Requirements.
Try to get a Personal Endorsement from one of your ex-PSA friends that are now at FedEx.
After the 1,000 TPIC consider going to Atlas for the Heavy International experience, if you can't get LCA or Training Dept.
You'll have to do something to set yourself apart from the thousands of Regional Captains with ample TPIC.

Just to build on what Thrust said... Your resume needs to look like other RJ guys hired at FedEx or you need something else.
The Mil guys in my new hire class were all Instructors and Evaluators except for me and I was an ACMI Captain in addition to my mil PIC.
The RJ guys were all Instructors, Check Airmen or Chief Pilots.
The ACMI guys all had a Boeing Type. Some had an MD Type too.
Most had PIC in a Boeing.
All of my new hire class had a degree and 1000 PIC. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR REGIONAL UNTIL YOU HAVE 1000 PIC. Don't do it. You could get a job at Atlas with 1,500 and a heart beat right now. You'll struggle to get out without that PIC.
However... If you get the PIC and can't get into the training department then I bet you'd only spend a year at an ACMI carrier before being picked up. So look at ATI, ABX, Atlas, Omni, Kalitta, Western Global, Amerijet.... etc AFTER you get your 1,000 PIC.

I agree with everyone about upgrading most importantly and then pursuing the School House, Management or Union work, volunteering, job fairs, etc.
I’ll be honest, and my opinion, I would NOT leave a wholly owned regional of AA to pursue an ACMI. I know we’ve hired a fair amount of guys from the ACMIs but you’ve got a flow to AA in your back pocket. No matter how far off it seems, that is a good thing to have. I would NOT trade that away for an ACMI.
Flying for a Regional that does not have a flow or process to get an interview at a Legacy, I get leaving for an ACMI. I’m not sure I would even do that, but I get it.
Getting more time as a Captain than just the 1,000 PIC will give you more experience, quality experience and will serve you well in your career.
Times are good for pilots and I hope you make it here someday. Enjoy the flying you are doing now and the journey it takes to get hired by a major. Keep yourself marketable to all the Majors, not just FDX. Getting hired by a major airline is a combination of preparation/luck/voodoo and the lottery.
I had a flow and an guaranteed interview through an internship at two different legacies. Having both of those were insurance policies that I appreciated. Having that Flow to AA takes some of the pressure off interviewing knowing you have something to fall back on.
Good luck and again, I hope you make it here. It’s a great place!

Don't leave a WO regional for an ACMI. There are plenty of qualified, competent and charismatic pilots who don't get picked up. Having flow is career insurance, and it would remove a lot of stress.
I work at an ACMI and there are a lot of guys senior to me who I thought would have been no-brainers for Delta, FDX or UPS to hire. They're still here.
