Wow this is interesting.
Here are some points to consider.
Expedited mediation allows for up to12 items per side. We had less than that after May.
The MEC asked us during the last telephone survey if you were ready to strike. They now know that answer. Making it public would show our resolve. But again, the MEC is not leading. When will they say, "We have heard you loud and clear, you are ready to support all legal actions to get the contract you have earned!" I have not heard anything like that since '04-06. Our opponent can smell the timidness exuding from the MEC. The membership can't find the rudder. The MEC is meeting next week, were we invited to come talk with our reps? Nope. Were we even told the venue? Nope. But at least they did tell us the city and state, that narrows it down.
What MEC actions will happen to show our resolve for a contract before the 31 of December when another large group of our pilots retire with $130K max pension? One rally in MEM at Shelby farms, way to stretch.
I will bet those who say things are right on track are not retiring before the 31 of this December. And if we had asked for expedited mediation in May, where would we be now?
One of the posters said "Expedited mediation was well played - excellent timing. Progress was still being made back in May 2022 as the NC grid clearly shows." Please explain why the company would have not continued making progress if we asked for expedited mediation in May? Why, would they have been mad at us and stopped negotiating in good faith? Would they have gotten their feeling hurt? Why now then? We met the parameters back in May, yet the MEC waited until now to exercise this option. Why, what did this delay cost us all? And some more than the rest.
It is time for leadership and fighting for "Best Value." That is always harder than taking "good enough." It is time we demand leadership, we have earned it.
Here are some points to consider.

With the current and future condition of the economy, I can take a pretty good guess at what the company will present as justification on the money sections of the contract. From experience, I can tell you that we're all likely to get a haircut as flying hours, line values, and career progression languish at the least. God forbid it goes badly enough for another foray through 4.a.2.b or 4.a.2.c
My point is, within our current contract construction, we take a pay cut WHENEVER the economy flags, which is exactly why present economic conditions should not be allowed to have any bearing on compensation negotiations.
That is a point that MUST be conveyed to the mediator.

We played ourselves.
We cannot win because the vast majority of this group refuses to accept that this is a fight. That most assuredly includes the head of the NC and the MEC.
We sauntered into these negotiations with this notion of a willing partner on the other side of the table. WTH anyone would believe that is beyond comprehension.
We've been shown time and a again who and what they value, but refuse to believe them when the tell us the first time.
Our leadership thinks that if we offer them a good deal they will thank us for being so reasonable and reciprocate. Pancakes anyone?!! How'd that work out?
We discourage each other from calling out the selfish actions of individuals out of FEAR of a retaliatory action from the company. The company isn't doing that WE ARE.
Now here we are weakness on display hoping that a Mediator will see it our way.
It would be funny if it also weren't so pathetic.

We absolutely are not fighting and there is little doubt that a great number of leadership believe we are - wearing the lanyard, a picketing event every 6 months or so with about 100 attendees - that's about the most fight we are going to get. And yes, we have our most leverage at peak.
2006 and 2015 CBAs were decided while at the NMB - and it still took a fight. It's not like the NMB has ever gotten something done that didn't require the pilots. I'm hoping we get dates and a mediator assigned soon but I'm sure the Company is hoping to delay any of this for as long as possible and they are pretty good at delaying and we appear to be pretty patient in accepting that.

I believe you and Pinseeker are essentially correct. We were definitely played over the last few months - very very little was left undone in the open sections from April - ask your rep. That could have been done at the NMB level likely more efficiently than in direct negotiations.

Any portion a contract not implemented within a year of signing should have exponential monetary penalties to the company.

Say mediation was requested in May. Does it change anything regarding our behaviors as a pilot group? Absolutely not. Peak has come and gone last year and in 2014. Nothing changed then either regarding pilots decisions to “get the job done”. At draft/ava of course…… Waiting on the majority to act like they are demanding a contract is an exercise in futility. Now draft is dry as a desert in most fleets. Block hours dropping. Our fellow crew-members choose themselves over the group. FACTS
