Honestly as a Delta guy (and one who is not in any way a fan of our management), I don’t have even a third of these gripes about the way we do things.

And the fact that you guys get ANYTHING less than 15:45 or 21:00 for a 3 and 4 day trip, respectively, is disturbing and sad.

Hopefully you guys can knock this contract out of the park and get back on top for a while again!

Quote: You can go back and forth on the semantics of what was technically said. I think you are missing the point, Justin.
9 hours for a “2 day” is crap.
Quote: Not sure why he is calling this a 3 day trip. gone 31 hrs for 8:58. I think the issue is, and I want more trip rig, but fedex and the union pretend everyone lives in Memphis and pay us accordingly. The worst is a 6ch day turn and you commute, 6ch for 2 days. It sucks
Every airline will optimize their trips based on the contract. The passenger carriers have bases that have multiple departures and arrivals every day. Fedex has bases that have at most, two departures and arrivals per day. The lack of arrivals and departures, along with our deadhead policy that doesn't allow the company to schedule deadheads on our own airplanes, creates these pairings. Show me a passenger carrier that has the extact pairings that we do.

On the flip side, you will have the pilot that lives in the city that the mentioned pairing deadheads to brag that he was only gone from home for 10 hours, and got paid 9 hours.

What some of these guys are compaining about requires a lot more information than they are giving you.

We have trips that pay 6 hours that have two landings and less than 8 hours of duty. These trips would be like a Delta pilot showing up to ATL at 7:00am, flying to Nashville and back and then going home because the trip is complete. How much would that trip at Delta pay? Would it pay more than your ADV of 5+15?

A Nashville turn from ATL will pay 5:15. If the rotation was on one of the selected holidays, it would pay an additional 5:15. If the flight was delayed to the point where it was over a ten hour duty period, then each minute after 10 hours pays one minute of pay. But if everything were vanilla, that turn would be 5:15.

However, unlike the trips you mentioned at FedEx, the Nashville turn will be during bankers hours 98% of the time. Due to not having a sort, it would not depart at 3am or arrive at midnight. That has a value in itself for many people.

Are you talking AM O/B's? Those most closely resemble a redeye at the pax carriers, not a 7:00am report.

Quote: Thanks, you have gotten the closest of anyone. Our day starts at 0130 LBT, so that trip is still a two day trip by the contract.
The trip touches 3 days. It’s a 3 day trip.

That being said, there are benefits as well. A five day trip here with DHs on either end can easily be turned into 3 calendar days away by shaving off the front and back. But that requires seniority. I think at the bare minimum, the most junior trip CH should be higher. Increase the trip rig and that will happen.

Beleive us we know. There's just a handful of guys, usually that live in Memphis, that want to believe fedex is still the best of anything. The comments below about "a FedEx day" is their rationalizing that.

Just because it's a "FedEx" day doesn't mean you're not away from home on the calendar. Honestly the 6 hour two days are what drives me crazy.

Obviously not comparable but thought for a little laugh I'd mention a thing from a regional. At Envoy they used to have a 3-day trip that paid 1:54. It was great use of sick time.

and at FedEx dudes would still fly that with a runny nose because you never know when our sick tracking system is gonna trigger a note requirement.

somehow were IN negotiations and our former NC just doesn't seem to care about stuff like that. I've been here 8 years, know my contract decently, and never know when a sick call is gonna trigger a note.

Well that trip at DL would allow you to be home in time for dinner with your family. You could even do one every day of the week and see your kids every night.

At FedEx even if you live in base you gotta leave your house at 0130 and then won’t get home until midnight. If you do it all week you aren’t ever going home even if you live in base. As a commuter with a shotgun line you have to commute in the night before and then go home the day after and touch an extra calendar day on both ends. Yeah, you can keep that extra 0:45 at industry trailing pay rates. Some of our families like to see us.

Your complete and utter refusal to acknowledge the shortcomings of FedEx scheduling borders on mental illness. You display a complete lack of awareness of how the rest of the industry operates.
