If you took “lazy bum” as an offense, my apologies. I intended it as good natured collegial ribbing. I meant it only to say that if you were being genuine in your debate, you could’ve easily looked up the pairings that easily show our disparity with our peers. But instead you wanted others to do the digging. Lazy? Yes. But maybe not worth the “bum”. Apologies.
Pedantic? That’s just an adjective. Definitions have multiple meanings. An Insult from your research is over broad and not my intended use. My usage was one who unduly emphasizes minutiae in the presentation or use of knowledge. I think that definition was on point. Your intention was not to debate the point about the disparity in our rigs from the industry. It was to nullify his whole argument by finding one meaningless flaw in the argument. Which I think is disingenuous.
The examples I gave of a 17 hour 4-day and an 11 hour 3-day are egregious enough to prove the point.

As far as debating goes, what exactly are you trying to debate? Is it that ogars' statement was hyperbole? If so, why did you take time to look up pairings instead of just saying so? Is it that we have pairings that pay 15 hours, because I never stated that we didn't.
If you think that a lot of the items that are complained about on here are going to get addressed, I suggest you read the update from LEC 26.

I've been here since 2005 and this is my 5th airline. OP does have way more than one valid point, a lot of things we do here I was like "uhh what?" when I first showed up. You gradually get used to them (and largely tune them out, I have selective listening since coming to this place thats for sure) or you quit for another airline.
Delta has its own bizzare sh*t too tho
Ask a DAL guy what WARTS and NATS stand for.....
"WARTS is our departure briefing, NATS is for arrival. But here's WARTS for example: W: weather, wind A: Aborts/abnormal R: runway T: Taxi ..."

Wow, you don't disappoint. So you meant lazy bum as good natured ribbing, yet double down on lazy. I didn't ask others to provide information. I wasn't debating the subject. I simply asked ogar to provide specifics on the information he said he had. I couldn't find any. You decided to insert yourself and you couldn't find any either. Now you say that your other insult was just an adjective. Well, I won't stoop to your level.

This varies from airline to airline. Some have the captain walk around (UPS). I don't think any airline trusts the mechanics to do this, I hope not anyway!
That's an FCOM thing, most all the carriers just follow the FCOM these days, for better or worse.
Cold and wet water bottles, but no need to wrap it, IMO.
Yes, a lot of the CRM and HF stuff is outdated. Not just FDX, but agreed.
Never heard of this, but I guess I've only been at FDX a few decades, so maybe not not encountered it?
Some people didn't get the memo that briefings should be brief. Hopefully nobody is training people to do that. Maybe they skipped over the part that says "as applicable" to the items?
That came out of how the company responded to pilots getting violated for taking off and busting flight time rules. A few years of warnings that pilots needed to watch for this didn't work, so they made it mandatory.
Captains should know better than this.
Yes.
You don't even need to have a printed copy of it. Was this a supplemental flight? If so, different rules.
Were you on the Airbus?
Never heard of this, what fleet? Definitely not the 727, -11 or 777!
Should only be about two items there?
Again, sounds like an Airbus thing?
Airlines vary on this one, about 50/50 last I checked across the industry.
No, it is just a smart thing to do, particularly in highly automated aircraft.
That comes from recommendations out of the FAA automation working group.
Agreed they are mostly benign, but this is a required FAA designation. Anxiety? Again, must be the Bus!
The FOM says brief and only what is required. Sounding more and more like the Bus to me.
Is is a recommendation in the FOM. That hasn't changed. Company can make recommendations mandatory. l
Came out of the FSF recommendations in the aftermath of a bunch of busts at USAir. Pretty much industry standard, what did you fly before?
Genesis was from the LOC work that showed that there is a greater risk of going around due to an unstable approach due to LOC than an accident landing. It is definitely not the last word!
Came from the response to the accidents, although I do think it is not all that well thought out.
Example of what happened here? That's just weird.
Another FSF recommendation that most carriers follow in one form or another. I do it in the limo.
Popular demand keeps that going.
Yes, that needs fixing. Not unique to any one carrier.
Weird, sure it was a 777 LCA? In any event, just wait until you get to Delta if you think that's bad!
Yes, that's why there is a New Hire Guide.
Common for most carriers.
Legacy holdover, started at Tigers, I think.
Because every once in a while someone who is arrogant gets bitten hard by the MD-11 and they die. We learned that the hard way. You seem like the awful captain in CRM that doesn't pay attention.
That came from the Falcon says, actually. Just a cultural holdover.

holy smokes man, you’re out of touch.
“All carriers are like that”, I don’t think you really have a clue as to what other carriers are doing, much like the rest of the group.
