I am told the union has grieved it. If we can't win this one, than we are paying way too much money for those big dollar ALPA lawyers.
+1

...and the fact the company is even attempting to not pay PO in this case shows their inability to be genuine about the contract, and past precedent, when they think they can save a few $$

Now let's review the Flight Operations Principles on those napkins they hand out in the AOC with the "free" drinks and the "free" pizza...

Even on the 767 with limited jumpseats it typically is not a problem to get a seat. Bigger considerations

- if flying 777 or int'l you'll definitely have to jump in the period prior (i.e. take 630am flight from SAN, spend day in MEM and take 0230 flight out next day) - you can come back right away on back end of trip

- on domestic trips bigger problem is the jumpseat protection rule - I think (haven't looked at this section since I'm not based in MEM anymore) the "no harm, no foul" rule was improved on recent 2015 contract but in general about 1/2 the domestic trips will not make the rule when coming from San Diego. In other words you won't fall into the parameters for no harm, no foul if you miss the trip because of a cancelled or delayed jumpseat out of SAN. That rarely happens but can be a big deal - especially first year when on probation.

- on the rare occasion that SAN seats are packed you can usually jumpseat out of LAX or ONT. Offline jumpseating can be a challenge out of SAN as well heading towards MEM.

I wouldn't worry about the jumpseating part - there will be pain but it'll go away soon after you increase in seniority or pick a different base/equipment. Part of the deal.

Thanks Tuck, and everyone else that provided input. Much appreciated!

Why, pay? Night flying takes some adjustment.

Thanks for the help!
Living in Memphis, bid Reserve lines based on what days you want off, then enjoy spending time with your family while at home on call. Reserve life in domicile is pretty good. We have our moments, but typically spend a lot less days on the road than the guys flying the line. Your mileage may vary depending on aircraft type.

I herd that the Nov 7 class will have more new hires then previous classes.
Can anyone speculate on the aircraft selection/assignments? Same ratio or is one airframe needing more pilots currently?
Thank you for any insight.

Ha. People are always asking me "how long until you can get off of reserve?" My reply is "hopefully never."

Four of the years that I lived in Memphis, I never did anything but reserve. Got called in to work an average of two days a month. However, I admit that I complained every single time they called me, probably because I had just sat down at a movie or fallen asleep.

I'm sure the reserves are far more utilized now, and I wouldn't want to do it over peak, however, sometimes it can be awesome!

What are the reserve callout times at FedEx? Do they have long/short calls?

1.5 hours for most lines, so,you will need to be in base. There are a few 24 hours lines but they usually use them for hotel standby...so you will be in base.
