For sure. I think if I had the money now, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

you know what, i read all this and it reinforces my decision to join the air force. i was once going to college and pursuing a career as a pilot and then i realized that i wanted to do more than just the same thing forever or perhaps i went to a airshow and seen all the cool toys that the air force gets to play with and decided i wanted to play with expensive toys too at a young age. so i joined and they let a 21 year old guy like myself put my name on the side of a 117, so i was a crew chief on those for 3 years and then what i call stepped down to a F16, they're not as cool, but the standing 10 ft away from a jet in full afterbuner sure is cool. so that got old and i pursued what i really wanted to do since joining the AF and tried out being a flight engineer. so that's what i do now and wouldn't trade it for the world. it's not quite being a pilot, but just as fun since the E3 is such a crew concept aircraft. so what does all this mean, get out there and experience things and don't just get locked in on just becoming a pilot. do what makes you happy.

Talking Hey.

[QUOTE=FOTGTD]Brav, first you must answer some questions like:

What is your age?
What are your goals in aviation?
Do you have a degree or are you in school now?
Where is the money for training coming from and how much?
Single, married, divorced, kids, bills, mortgage?

I'm 15 years of age.

Airline pilot.

I'm in the International Baccalaurette programme at my high school. I am planning on taking Aerospace Engineering at the University of Toronto in a special "DEEP - da Vinci Engineering Enrichment Program" over the summer. I am going to take Aerospace Engineering at the University after i graduate.

I have no problems with money. I just want some good advice on some places i can get started. I live in Toronto, Canada and i was wondering if anyone can give me some good advice about Clubs or Good Instructors their.

As well is it really important to have good vision. I have 20/20 vision but my left eye is getting slightly bad. I can still see very well. But is their a certain amount of vision one must have?

Off topic,
I was wondering in the salary portion of this website. I was looking at Air Canada Pilots salaries per month. And it said for the 1st year it's 49.2K. What is K does it stand for a thousand? Because then the next year it says $199. without K? I am in the metric system and we don't use that unit, i was wondering if anyone can help me with that?

Are Airline pilot salaries good?

How often do you get holidays? Do you work on days such as New Year?

Do you get respected for being pilot by peers and family?

Thanks for reading my post,

ANXIESTLY AWAITING YOUR REPLY!

Ooh,ooh my turn..... What is your age?
What are your goals in aviation?
Do you have a degree or are you in school now?

Im 14 years old

I want to be a pilot for Air Canada, its been my dream to become an airline pilot since I was 4,my secondary career choice is a police constable, in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.By the time I get to apply to Air Canada, they'll have the 777 and 787, my dream is to, uh, captian thoes planes. After 5 or 10 years, of being a pilot, I want to become a politician, prime minister of Canada.

Right now, im in grade 8, I dont know where I want to go to university, maby macmaster, and I dont know what kind of degree I want, maby criminal justice, law, or aerospace engineering, or some other degree in a aviation related field.

My mom is paying for my flight lessons, as of now, I have logged 5 hours, in Cessna 172,and 152 series .

In response to the post before me, K(IE:$42.5K), means thousand, like 23K=23,000 or Y2K=Year 2000...

Default Help

I have been thinking about going to RAA before reading this forum now I am very unsure of what to do to become a pilot. It has always been my dream and I afraid that I will not be able to fulfill my dream.. I am 42 yrs. old married , no kids , been at Wal-Mart for 20 yrs. and I want to fulfill my dream. My wife is behind me all the way and willing to do whatever it takes for me to do it, I just want to make the right decision of how to become a pilot.

Reading this thread was very interesting, seems like both pros and cons were posted. My situation is kinda weird. Im 24 and about to get out of the US Army because its just not me. Back in High school i was involved in Air Force JROTC and Civil Air Patrol which i excelled in both. I took flying lessons as financially as i could and soloed. I was trying to get into the USAF academy but got turned down. I applied for scholarships but no luck. I had a 3.5 GPA but apparently it wasnt good enough. I stopped flying because of school and money. After graduating HS I joined the army in 2000 for one real reason, the money for college. I looked into the air force and i looked into the army and frankly the army offers more college money. It came at a downfall tho, cause i will tell you the air force threats their enlisted alot better. But i was locked in. I scored very high in the ASVAB and was offered any job I wanted. Naturally i chose aviation but since the army does not have airplanes i chose the biggest helicoptor, the CH47D Chinook. I wasnt prepared to leave california, the recruiter said he thinks Ft Irwin had Chinook unit, he thought wrong and i was sent to Fort Campbell, KY!!! There i was in the 101st Airborne as a Chinook mechanic. Sept 11 happened and I was engulfed in the deployments to the middle east. I went to Afganistan first then came home for a month and was sent to Iraq when it first kicked off. I was a door gunner and then progressed to Crew Chief and logged plenty of hrs over the skies of iraq and afgan. But sitting in the back just was not the same. Deep down I wanted more. But with the furloughs and my ethnicity(Sri Lankan, yeah i get mistaken for Indian which for some reason ignorant ppl think Im related to this terrorist crap!!!!) I was rethinking about doing the whole airline thing. I thought about warrant school and be a Helicopter pilot but really its not the same....its not something i was passionate about. It got so bad I left my position as a crew chief and went back to just being a mechanic. I mean i get paid the same but its just not something i could do forever. I had my fun but it was a deadend job and in the end you were never a pilot. I consider most of them wannabe pilots. I then got relocated to Fort Hood Texas where I am currently stationed with 4th Infantry Division and I am back in Iraq. But the army has done some good for me. I have a house, a loving wife and two badass cars that are paid off. I will be returning to Texas and getting out for good in two months, unless they initiate some stupid draft or something. My Army experience has helped me develop many skills and its like i see things in a whole new way. I went from a kid who barely knew how to work on hondas to one of the best helicopter mechanics in my unit. So here i am 24, thinking Ive been out of the loop for awhile but really ive just got my life in order, so i can take the next step of becoming a pilot. I have about $8,000 cash to start back my flight lessons, hopefully i can knock out my PPL in hardly any time considering i used to fly before. Financially im stable and my wife has an alright job. We have no kids so thats a good thing. And i have the 50,000 in college money the army is going to pay. Not to mention veterans benefits. I was looking into those schools like ATP but i think im just gonna fly out of a FBO untill i get my commercial and CFI along with Intrument and multi, maybe even MEI and CFII. My goal is to get into the regionals at or before 30.....I think im still young enough to do it. As discouraged as i once was because of 9/11 looks like the industry is bouncing back. Slowly but surely it will be back to its original growth rate, hopefully by the time i have my 4 yr and my ratings. And i think i have something most new pilots dont, Im a 3 time war vet. Sometimes i feel the army has robbed me of my youth but i look at my peers and know im better off and have a better attitude to succeed. In school and flying. And thats the point i want to get across to my younger peeps, determination is the key. Dont be discouraged....If thats what u are truly passionate about being a pilot then no other job will suffice!!!! But always have a back up!!! My back up is maintenance, I will be getting my A&P and my degree in aeronautical engineering so if i want i can switch from flying to A&P mechanic. Which i wont be satisfied but if i can afford my own plane then thats better than being without a job trying to make it.
