Actually that describes my situation too. I was wondering why they would be limited as long as you could get a reliable flight to BOS

I flew with a Pilot that was on leave from Delta and was based in HPN. As he lived in NYC he asked to have his base changed to LGA and they approved. Not all bases have easy flights to BOS (CHO, JAX, MSY, and RIC are a few). I would say any city could be asked for except any city in California due to what they said are tax issues.

They pick bases on price and frequency of departures. The problem with a lot of the class C airports is that they are more expensive than some of the bigger C's or hubs. Most times even with many direct flights available, they'll put you on a 2 leg trip to save money.

If you are based anywhere other than PSM or maybe PDK, 90% of trips start and end with a commute. Day 1 is usually getting to the airplane. Then fly for 6 days, and airline home day 8. Sometimes you'll fly day 1 or 8 but more than likely not. If you're PSM based expect to fly all 8 days. In the summer you'll most likely airline to BOS and take the C&J up to Portsmouth to support NE flying. In the winter most times you'll be going somewhere south taking people on vacation or their winter homes.

Yes the duty day includes the commute. It doesn’t matter if the commute is via airline or rental car we are on duty. If we are starting the day by airlining then our day starts 1 1/2 hours before the airline flight is scheduled to leave

I was actually the first pilot with Planesense based in DFW a handful of years back. Your "base" is just where you live (and most likely the airport you airline to/from). That has nothing to do with the airports Planesense operates out of. They operate out of any airport the passengers ask to go within reason like Addison, Dallas Love, McKinney, Meacham, etc. DFW is just the central hub that the pilots commute to/from.
