I ran into a buddy recently that had been at gama about as many years as I had been at XO [3 years+]. There isn’t a single thing Gama has that is better then XO. Forced to park at signature while my truck was in covered parking. Not worrying about my ubereats/DoorDash meal not getting approved because you did pickup instead of delivery. Also getting paid when the company gets you home late on your last day.

Upgrades are moving quickly at XO could get as low as a year on both fleets. A hard day for us is 3 legs in a day. I love the king air but 7 legs with no apu in the summer and a full uniform sounds like the seventh circle of hell. Good Luck on the interview hopefully it’s a choice you get to make.

Sounds like you already have some inside info at Gama, but my two cents as a Gama pilot. There’s only two reasons to go to Gama over XO.

1. The initial pay if you cannot or don’t want to wait for the upgrade at XO. XO has a greater income potential over time, but you’ll make more in the first year at Gama.

2. You are in a position where you need a job now. Obviously you’re gambling by turning down Gama when you don’t have an offer from XO. You’re gambling that you’ll either get the job with XO or that Gama will offer you a position again. That being said, Gama needs people. If you handle the situation upfront and professionally with them, I could see them being open to offering you a position at a later date.

If you have the flexibility that the above items aren’t a factor, don’t come to Gama.

Gama is desperate for pilots, so I wouldn’t worry about the offer going away.

Yeah that is why I am attempting to keep my options open. The gama reps have given me a deadline of basically today to get back to them on their CJO. I am new to this idea training contracts and wonder if it would be that bad of an Idea to sign it and if XOJET works out, then head that direction instead...? Thoughts on that? Thanks for the insight thus far!

Yeah signing a contract that you immediately bail on is a bad idea, you potentially could get out if it up until day 1 of training, but that’s still a potential gamble.

I agree with Joebob21, it’s a bad idea to break a contract. At some point your word has to mean something, especially to yourself. You sleep better at night that way. If you want to keep your options open be truthful with them and tell them - not yet. You may get another opportunity...But then again there is something to be said about a bird in hand! Give Gama a year and then if you want to move on your good to go. They work hard but are a good group of folks. I know a few of them.

XOJET. Don’t feel desperate - this is a pilots’ hiring market. Many, many operators hiring and Gama’s pressure to get your answer now is laughable in this market.

I don’t know.
The fact that GAMA is putting any pressure on you at all is, to me, a sign of how they will treat you once on board.
You don’t have to sign any contract until day one of training. You certainly don’t have to sign a contract upon accepting a job offer.
I would say-
1. Accept their offer for whatever start date.
2. Apply to XOJet
3. If you hear from XO before the start date at GAMA, that’s good.
If so, make a final decision about GAMA at that point.
4. If you haven’t heard from XO before you have to show up at GAMA,
Your hand has kind of been played for you.
What class date did they offer you at GAMA?

How is giving a date to accept an offer by some kind of undue pressure.

They have plans to make too and need to how how many are in class.
