I read the section and examples after my jaw dropped in order to confirm my fears. This poster is correct. This is not a 5 hour min duty day, it's a 5 hour min duty day average.

Someone please tell me if this is correct. I have a four day trip and the first day is essentially a reposition flight. I show up at 8pm, fly 1:20 to get into position. So I'm off duty and get to the hotel where I have 12 hours rest. The next three days I fly my butt off, averaging 7 hours per day. so the trip total is 22:20 at the end of the four day. Since I averaged over five hours per day, I do not get paid the 5 hours for showing up the first day? Correct? Where I would get paid 26:20 under a min duty day scheme, I get paid 22:20 because my "average" exceeded 5 hours X 4 days?

Holy Mackerel !!!

If this is true, it is deception to use the term "Min duty day" as it exists with every other airline I know of when the correct term would be "min duty day averaging calculation".

This caveat allows the same behavior on part of scheduling that many people consider a waste of their time for which they will not be compensated.

If this doesn't bother a pilot, that pilot most likely enjoys being at work rather than at home. Tell me I'm wrong, please.
Alaska, JetBlue and United all get 5 hours min duty per day “averaged” by the number of duty periods of the trip. Spirit’s language says “Four and one-half hours per duty period for the entire trip”.

American gets 5:15 per calendar day that flys through 2am “averaged” as well

Not sure about the rest but looks to be pretty standard in the industry

Clearing up the confusion: for Spirit

In a few months, once PBS starts, Spirit will have 5 hour min duty period, 3.5:1 trip rig and a 2:1 duty rig. Any layover 24:00 or greater will pay an additional duty period of 5 hours.

In the vast majority of instances, the 3.5:1 trip rig will exceed the 5 hour min day anyhow. The min day doesnt really do much. If I remember correctly, BK calculated out the effect of the rig and the min day and found the rig added 4x more credit system wide than the min day.

Aero is correct the rig is more valuable than the average day.
I encourage everyone to look at their current trips and figure the rig.

So when I download this app on my phone to check my schedule 15 after block and 30 before departure.... every leg.....will it also track my location? Be careful with your sick calls folks.

This could get interesting.....

The FAQ questions say if you don't DL the app, you have to use a company computer to check. I wonder what permissions must be granted for app usage.

This is incorrect. Spirit will have a 3.5:1 trip rig with PBS implementation.

Nope

“One hour's flight time credit for each 3.5 hours elapsed time away from his base.”

Even though you may not intend to use the contract against us in that way. To date you have been ruthless. So forgive us for wanting to protect ourselves from the several ways you can exploit our lives.
